SJM at the Las Vegas Open

I've seen her play in person last month in Vegas and online, and she acts about the same. It seems to me that she needs a coach that would get her out of rhythm player mode and move her away from pure tactical play and into the strategic mode. From what I've read she has been a standout student...

SJM at the Las Vegas Open

She is only going to rack up wins if she learns to manage the external and internal pressure.

SJM at the Las Vegas Open

I was there on Wednesday and watched Savannah warm up and then play Albert Januarta in the Juniors and she seemed to be getting into her own head. Never missed a shot during warm up, then started missing routine shots into the corners during the match and lost 0-2. I don't know who is coaching...

    Vegas

Yes. Years ago me and a gal stayed at the Mandalay Bay in September or October and had tickets to see Jeff Beck in concert at the House of Blues. She was used to walking half marathons and I was a heavy duty bicyclist so we were both in shape. It was 90 F and we walked most if not all of it. I...

    Vegas

"Parking used to be free. Some casinos now charge $20-$25." I now live about an hour from Vegas so will be driving over for a day during the CSI tournament at the Westgate that starts on Feb 18th. Every other time I've been there I've flown in so not sure where to park since I won't be getting...

    My Fargorate progression

Re: pro pattern play, I watch a lot of pro matches on youtube, with the sound muted. From my recliner, I analyze the table after the break and pick the pattern. I usually come to the same answer as the pro and I have found that this exercise pays dividends on the table. The other things to...

What did you pay for the levels? I picked up the big one at a yard sale for $50...

Why did I miss the ball? Did my aim fail, or was it my mechanics?

I actually used 2 mirrors for this, one behind me and one in front. It worked but it was fiddly to set up so I went and bought a cheap sony video camera and ran the output to a TV so that I could watch from different angles.

    Are pool players team players?

Played in VNEA for few years on a team of strong players in a rural state and we all wanted to kick ass, especially after seeing the handicaps we were being saddled with. No one else in the league really wanted to play us but it was mostly big fish in a small pond. We did go to state and took...

People who use chalk holders...what do you do when

I never knew that there was such a thing as a magnetic chalk holder until I watched a match that Margarita Fefilova was playing years ago in the pre-Steyer days. She had the clip on her rear pocket, so it was hard to miss when she was down on a shot lol. When I was playing league I switched...

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

I'm glad to see the money coming. About time. Last time I remember anything like it was in the ESPN2 heyday and the big money exhibition matches.

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

    I would say so.

    Pool table brush

I would not use a shop vac or other extra powerful vac. I use an old canister vac that is only used on the table, with the small upholstery attachment and the crevice tool. I would not use an attachment that has been used on floors. [edited] I meant to say I wouldn't use a floor attachment that...

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

I agree. Part of that problem is likely the difficulty in finding a local place that has 9 footers. The rural junior college where I learned to play in the early 1970s had a couple GC1 and a snooker table, but even back then it would have been at least a 100 mile drive to play on a different...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

Never played Pill Pool but I did learn how to play in the pool room in the basement of the student union building at college, on 60's era GC tables. Never played on a bar table until years later cause I wasn't 21 yet.

Cleaning Balls - Machine vs Hand

That's why I added the speed control. I can now set the speed so that the balls stay around the outer edge instead of simulating a hockey match.

Cleaning Balls - Machine vs Hand

Still using mine. I added a speed control (rotary dimmer switch) to fine tune the action. At the time I was running a local league and thought I would use it to shine up the balls on the bar tables we had to play on. Might as well have been trying to polish a turd - you can really see that divot...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

I did the same thing. There were too many drunk cowboys & rednecks that liked to fight that would put their quarters down. I was doing it for the practice and since the stakes were never high, I could shoot all night for free without getting my ass kicked. I only played guys I knew for money.
