    Radial live threading

I never use them at the A joint..... I actually was more curious than anything. The other day I was cutting live threads and also had hand threaded for a radial and it just peaked my curiosity. I did not see a practical way of doing this process but just figured I would ask incase I was missing...

    Heritage by Brunswick

Hello. May be a little late as I already purchased a 4.5 x 9 Heritage by Brunswick. These were produced between 1972 to 1977. Are there any known issues with these tables? I know there are newer models and its not a Crown but only paid $350. While a ball return is also an option, this one did...

Are these THE BEST Utility blade-cue tip Trimming

I have used the Dewalt carbide with no issues. Just picked up a pack of Lennox because I am almost out. But only because that's what the big box store had. To me the important items are a good steady support for the blade and throw them out after a couple uses. If you think about it, the blade...

    When to fit the pin?

Robbycar, yes you do run a risk of marring the final surface. However, as JoeyInCali mentioned, accuracy is very important when it comes to the pin. Finish methods and set up also play factors.

    Snakewood question

I was told working with snakewood can be very costly as it has a tendency to crack / break easily. Is this a wood you should not cut points into? Can someone please provide me with some do's and don'ts? I do appreciate any positive input. Ed Petersen.

    Carbide inserts for lathe tool

I use an indexable carbide cut off tool. Super sharp and and has super tight corner. I don't want say 90 degrees because it's not as it has a positive cut which allows to get into the shoulder area. Thanks Ed.

Critical skills for cue repairs and building (newbie)

I agree with JoeyInCali about using live tooling for threading as it makes the threads much better. Not sure about picking up a lathe for peanuts but I guess it depends on your definition of peanuts. But if you do, u better make sure the thread feed works correctly and the 1/2 nuts are not wore...

How long to build a cue?

Thanks all. And yes, I agreed waiting for the wood to season is the longest. However, I was referring to just labor. I think Joey said it best when he told me to quit counting hours as I would realize I could make more working at Starbucks lol. Good thing I have a full time job. Mr. Kim...

    Leather Wraps

Hello all. I want to start installing leather wraps (We all had to start at some point). Wondering if there are any strong pointers anyone is willing to share. Looks like I will be purchasing a Unique leather wrap fixture unless swayed differently. With regards to thickness are wraps fairly...

    Few Simple Questions

Rob, If you bore the end of the shaft you are trying to make a low deflection shaft (not to be confused with a shaft that is stiff). I know a cue maker here in Florida who does this. Some people like them others not so much. Another cue maker I know was boring them and inserting carbon fiber...

How long to build a cue?

Hello all. Just curious approximately how long some of you feel it takes to build a cue. Let's discuss something basic such as a cue with cored forearm and handle. 4 points with veneers in the forearm with decorative rings at the joint, A-joint, above and below butt sleeve. No windows as this...

    Few Simple Questions

Hello Rob, All great questions. And you certainly can not go wrong with advise from Kim or Mr. Michael Webb. Glad to hear you are coring the wood as I feel there are benifits. West system works great. For the cores I also use Gorilla glue, the poly type. But no need to buy both if you already...

    using a caliper question

To me it depends. If it is truly a finished shaft with taper, I would use the narrower portion. This way I get a more accurate measurement. If the object is straight, then the wider section is preferred. Have to keep in mind your objective and what you are measuring. Good question and best of...
