Played pool at a bowling alley. Never again. Questions?

LOL - this is how I started out almost EXACTLY when I began playing

    Fast Player or Slow Player?

Just for fun, but maybe an interesting psychological part of the game.... When it comes to your opponent, what gets under your skin the most - A fast player or slow player? This has probably been touched on here before, but any thoughts now?

    Predictions, Pool Halls VS Bars

I expressed my opinion a while back that IF the majority of pool halls closed that their MAY be a resurgence of pool hall patrons that would transition over to the barrooms for pool playing as far as public competition goes. I'm not sure if I would be correct in my assumption because I think...

    The best non-pro player ever?

This is so interesting. As soon as you mentioned just the first name Jack, I thought of the guy who played Earl back in the day. Was that Jack Hines? I was very impressed by the video I saw of him when he took him to the hill, maybe in the 80's?. I think there was a lot said about him on here a...

    The best non-pro player ever?

I get this too. But I mean those like Reyes, Earl, Neils, Orcollo, etc.... I'm talking about the players over time that never made it in the sense that they went into major tournaments and won money that way. I'm talking about those players that aren't on the boards here or anywhere- Players...

    The best non-pro player ever?

I agree with this, but what I mean by non-pro player is someone who didn't make his name known through the ranks like Archer and those who were televised through the years. Someone who stayed under the radar and maybe made a living through pool (or somewhat) that was an amazing player that...

    The best non-pro player ever?

Just a diversion from everything, but thought it would be interesting to bring up. Maybe it doesn't really mean much in the long run, but I've always thought it was an interesting question, especially for those who have been in the pool game for a long time. I have for years heard that the...

Will this shutdown finish off most pool halls in the US?

I don't think it will be as bad as people think. Pool rooms, yes to a certain extent, but bars and leagues.... not so much, because they have established themselves for many years. It would be absurd to think that even a shutdown for just months would bankrupt bars and leagues. I've seen some...

So what are the pros doing?

What do you guys think about how the pros are doing now in the midst of all this? What about Earl? Any word on how him and others are doing now since not having a room to keep their game in shape?

To those who think it's over for pool

It's been a while, but had to throw in my two cents ;) I've read a ton of concerned comments here, thinking that this whole thing is going to end pool as we know it, etc. I get that. My issue with this is that many of the commenters are regarding and comparing this to a depression. In my...

How to deal with trash talk?

I actually went about it differently.... That is probably good, but I noticed that you can also play their game and throw them off so bad because they can't handle what they dish out.

How to soften a to hard tip ?

Tap the tip with one of those spikey tools, wet it or use soft chalk afterwards. I've had a tip that has lasted for over 20 years using this method. Thing is, once the tip gets so low to the ferrule, then it's time to replace it.

    Any players from Easton, PA

Just wondering since I play out of the immediate area, though a bit north from there. Looking for some serious players for a pool team eventually that might be interested. The team I'm on has a former state champion and some very good players but want to beef up our team. Allentown players would...

How to deal with trash talk?

Had a pool league match tonight, and multiple times a couple of members from the opposing team talked an enormous amount of trash during the games. It was actually ridiculous and pretty insulting to go with it. I made it a point to ask my captain to play me against the biggest trash talker on...

    Earl was right

No, you are right - I should have made it in the middle of the pocket, like every pool player does.

    Pool Not Being Fun Anymore?

I think everyone goes through this - at least most players... But I think a question is in order here - At the height of your playing, what was it that got you fired up the most to be into the game? That might be the key to this.

    So what about tight pockets?

First off, I definitely appreciate your comment. I like the fact that you also come from a snooker background, which to be honest, I have not played snooker personally, so I'm going to be naturally ignorant about some things. But how can you even compare snooker to the American games? For the...

    Earl was right

I remember a while back when watching Earl talk about the differences of tables, and in particular pocket size and how they played. He remarked about how the facings in the pocket was key to the shot, even more than the pocket size itself. I agree.... I had an example of this happen tonight on...

    So what about tight pockets?

ABSOLUTELY WRONG. I've heard this argument many, many times by even the more experienced players (which is sad). First off, both players not only do not have the same shots on a (supposed) even playing field, but they also do not have the same styles of play or skill level in how they play on...

    So what about tight pockets?

I totally agree with this post, and even though I don't have experience with Chinese 8-ball, I understand what you've said even by just watching this game online. For me, just as a spectator, it's nice to watch someone with great eyesight and straight stroke be able to cinch shots into a tight...
