I was going to say that a cueball can't possibly "know" anything, it just reacts to your tip. However after some more thought I suspect that in my case, the cueball seems to know how to find almost impossible angles to scratch and give my opponent ball in hand.

Blue Diamond, $7 for two cubes. Filed the first one flat to about 1/4", now using the second. Friend bought Tiger, 3 cubes for $18. I tried his but it's too soft and messy compared to the Blue Diamond. Another guy I play uses TAOM and loves it.

After the orignal break to start the game, any single ball driven to the rail or the cue ball itself driven to the rail after striking one or more object ball(s) is legal. At least that's the way we've always played.

I've taken a new black sharpie and tapped the tip all around the edge to blend it in. You might want to try that before the clear epoxy.

Glossy black nail polish worked for me. I taped around the edge of the chip with blue painters tape, then lightly brushed the polish on in thin layers.
