    What Are "Practice" Strokes For?

I stopped using practice strokes about 5 or 6 months ago and am playing better without them. I do all my thinking about my shot standing up, aiming, speed and english. If I put my body in the right position once I get down I don't need any practice strokes or to even have my eyes open, because I...

    Pool Injuries

Use the Bridge I was stretched out for a shot on a barbox when my foot went out from under me. To keep from face planting into the slate I caught myself with my bridge hand and heard my shoulder make a crunching sound. I'm sure something is wrong with my rotator cuff since I have to be careful...

    Videos of BigRigTom Practicing 14.1

Position, Position, Position Tom, It's great to see a video of another mere human playing 14.1. All those videos of 100 plus runs can get a little discouraging to us mortals  . I play at the same speed you do and can see my mistakes on your video - taking position for granted, speed...

How do you teach Focus, or Concentration

Concentraton “Some people think they are concentrating when they're merely worrying.” - Bobby Jones Are you really concentrating on the shot which is to make the cue ball hit the object ball in a specific spot with the proper speed and spin? Or are you thinking about the ball going in the...

Who wouldn't call a foul on themselves?

Always I always call fouls on myself. 1st - Because it is the right thing to do, period. 2nd - If you let your opponent call your fouls and they make a mistake how can you argue?? You conceded that right by having them call your fouls. Just my 2 cents. Andy

    Situation from 2009 Worlds

I see your point Mike, Thank you for attempting to expand my view between when to go offensive and when to duck. I really appreciate your input and the information that is given on this board. In a real life situation I am not sure which way I would go. It would depend on many factors the...

    Situation from 2009 Worlds

Mike, I guess I see it as a way to lose the battle but win the war. Sure my way ends my run but puts me in a very good position to start another one. To me kicking at balls with only 3 balls left is very risky, there are alot of things that can go wrong. In a practice situation I would try...

    Situation from 2009 Worlds

Another Option??? When I first saw this post this is the option that came to mind for me. http://CueTable.com/P/?@4CbAJ4IBCg4OADW1PNag4QRpD4RDQL1kNag4kaRq4kceQ4kRxCzb4lRpD4lDGU4lDQK@ This puts me in a good place to play a behind the rack safety, freeze the cueball to the rack, push balls out...

This is what happened in my match tonight

Rule Book Sounds like you need to invest in a rule book. I can't find the link but there is a PDF of the rules online that you can print. This is the only way to settle any dispute that might come up. Did you ask at the pool hall if they had a copy of the rules? Andy edit: here is the link...

What's going on with this type of carom shot?

Andy is right. You can throw the object ball far enough off the tangent line to miss. If you want the ball to go straight down the line you have to hit it with a stop shot so the cue ball is not spinning at all. If the cue ball is rolling at all it will pull the object ball to the left. Andy2

    Jumping up before you finish

I have helped people by doing this. Just a light touch on the back of the head with a shaft usually works. However some people need the butt end of my break stick. Andy

    My head hurts

14-1StraightMan, Thanks for the vote of confidence. I also set up a break shot and rerack when I miss, but when I start to feel like I'm putting to much pressure on myself to keep the run going instead of making the shot before me I will back off and relax by just throwing some balls out and...

    My head hurts

The Count It is very hard to keep the count out of your head. I know it took me a long time not to do it. What I did was in practice to not even count after I had missed, no score counter, no counting the balls on the table, nothing. This allowed me to increase my runs because they did not...

    My head hurts

keeping track Be careful not to try and keep track of how many balls you ran in your head. Use the score counter at the end of each run, just like in a game. If you try to keep track in your head it will just mess with your game and and shorten your runs. You end up thinking about how many have...

    Your one thing

One (of many) problems for me is not knowing whether to use follow or draw when going into a cluster. Do I want to hit the cluster and draw back out, or follow through to the other side. Andy <---a 50% chance of getting it right give me a 100% chance to get it wrong!

    Stuck / Tight Weight bolt

Warning If you are going to use a soldering iron to loosen the glue make sure you wrap the end of the butt in a wet towel. You DO NOT want to overheat the finish. I have removed the weight bolt in my Schon using a soldering iron and even with a cold wet towel the butt of the cue became warm...

Do you jack up to get more draw?

Tip Offset? In the other thread about draw it was stated that the max draw occurs with an 80% tip offset (with 100% being a miscue). My theory is that by jacking up people are more comfortable or concentrate more on where they are striking the ball and getting closer to that 80%. What we would...

How Do You Regain Your Composure?

Money changes Everything Money changes everything. Money and a partner changes things even more. You start thinking "What If" What if I miss this shot What if I miss my position What if I scratch What if we blow this lead What if I can't get back in stroke Thoughts like this become a self...
