Actually, i have seen one recently with veneers. I can find out where it came from. The forehand piece is probably more tricky than it appears. Obviously the rear piece would have to be perfectly square unless you use the headstock method as does Hightower. I dont believe a sander can clean up...

You took the words right out of my mouth. Except add a straight grain shaft. House cues hit more solid than alot of lower end cues. They are after all full spliced. And they also will handle the cannon ball (larger coin op ball) better than alot of cues.
