How often do you replace cue tips?

I only replace my cue tips when they get so thin that miscues get more frequent.

    Stolen Searing

Sorry to see this happened. I experienced something similar a few years ago with two collectible light sabers -- I was home watching the package tracking data the whole time. To my surprise the mailman only left a "missed delivery" note at my door without knocking, and I had to pick it up at...

    Cue Tip Compression

Oddly enough, I just had a Kamui black hard tip installed on my AG playing cue shafts. It feels a lot softer than the cue's original hard leather tips, and it definitely grips the cue ball better, but not sure how well it will hold up over time since I do break with it as well.

    Ebony and Maple, No Veneers

Believe me, you're not alone on the cue image reposting front. I've lost count on how many times I've posted my playing cue images here, but the newer smart phones have dramatically better cameras than when I first purchased my cues 15+ years ago, so pictures of the same cues just keep getting...

    Ebony and Maple, No Veneers

My AG playing cue is basically an 8 pointer ebony spliced into BE maple, with a few extra inlays ;)

List of pro players who stick to wood as their playing shaft

Agreed there, though it's the watch features, materials, and movement grade that drive prices much higher than the basic models. My personal collection includes these guys:

    Ivory on Pin

I've never had any doubts that I could play with my cue anywhere in the US. What was unclear were the rules of shipping an ivory inlayed cue for repair purposes from an ivory-ban state... how do I prove that this is a repair job as opposed to an illicit sale? I've even seen posts recommending...

    Leather Wrap Install Vegas

EDIT: Some textured wraps like gator tend to hide the seam more easily. Andy Gilbert did an awesome job on my cue's gator skin wrap. I still have to look pretty close to spot the seam on my 2005 AG cue. Then again, my eyesight isn't all that great anymore!

    Ivory on Pin

Thx for clearing that up, though I only read posts here every so often, so I missed the first 6+ times you commented on this. At least I know that when the time comes, I can actually get my cues repaired. My actual worst fear is taking cues with me on a flight... has to be checked luggage, and...

    Ivory on Pin

My AG cue inlays are all pre-ban scrimmed elephant ivory that would be protected under clear coat, so I did go that route since it did not cost anything extra back in 2005. Now it's more of a liability since the cue could be confiscated by customs if it crosses state lines for any repair work...

List of pro players who stick to wood as their playing shaft

Old school pool cues, like high end automatic watches, can get uber fancy but requires artisans to work on them when maintenance is required. I love both as well and will need serious time trying to make any switch to CF. My coworkers used to make fun of my Breitling and Omega watches while...

    Ivory on Pin

I should have asked for this feature when my cue was ordered, even if it was just decorative. Andy did ask if I wanted to upgrade to and ivory join and butt cap, but I chose SS and delrin since I wanted materials that could withstand some mishaps.

List of pro players who stick to wood as their playing shaft

Rolex movements are built like tanks and will keep going and appreciating long after its owner passes away. I personally prefer Swiss or German automatics with other complications / features like chronograph, power reserve meter, GMT hand, etc. I just wish these things didn't cost so much! As...

My McDaniel came out to play

Love that cue. This particular McDaniel design was one I was considering purchasing before eventually going a slightly different route with my 2005 Gilbert.

    Let's see your gilbert cues

My work place's pool table just got new cloth + pockets... here's my cues enjoying the new scenery: The Gilbert shaft also got upgraded to a Kamui black hard tip. Wow what a difference in performance.

    Decal cues are the best

At that price, I would expect genuine inlay work as opposed to a decal / sticker. Even the description mentions "intricate ebony-colored inlays."

    Pechauer Cues

That, or the flashy cues are getting too expensive to risk regular game play. :D

    Meucci fans... Archives are back!!

I have a mid 1980's Meucci cue that was a graduation present from my parents. It was the best hitting cue I had played with at the time. I've since moved on to a Schon followed by a Gilbert, but that Meucci still sees regular use by my better half.

    Best Playing Cue Builder

I know Andy moved his shop to Florida a few years ago. J&J still has some of his cues in stock. They are excellent players and give you a lot of cue for the money. He uses a pantograph for his inlay work and can make custom builds as fancy as you want. I had the cue in my signature and...

    Advice on selling ivory-inlayed cue.

Both my Gilbert and Schon cues contain ivory, and my biggest concern isn't selling them... it's getting them fixed in the event something exceptionally bad happens to them. Even shipping them back to Schon or Andy for any service makes me nervous since they could be confiscated in transit...
