    U.S. OPEN 2026, Frisco, Texas, August 25-30

Stuff happens and we all should be used to it, accept it, and wait for our next shot. Balls skid, tables roll off, rails on the same table play differently, pockets fail to accept a perfectly hit shot, bad calls from a ref. Ca-ca happens and pros should know that and not whine about any of it...

When it comes to choosing a shaft, Is deflection the only factor?

Agreed. I bought a used Shelby with two shafts. One was 4 ounces the other like 3.2, both with 12.25 tips. Called Shelby, he searched his inventory and made me a nice 4 ounce shaft. For me, too light a front end feels like the shaft is trying to float away from my bridge hand. Lou Figueroa

When it comes to choosing a shaft, Is deflection the only factor?

The Numero Uno Factor when it comes to choosing a shaft: does it feel good and inspire confidence. Lou Figueroa that's it

INFO and APPRASIALS for my old Gina Cue

$10K for that cue is... nuts. I believe you were correct putting it $3-4K. Lou Figueroa

INFO and APPRASIALS for my old Gina Cue

Definitely worth something to the right collector. Clearly, from the logo, it's a second generation Gina, sometime after 1988 -- the first generation had Ginacue spelled out one way or the other. It also does appear to have been used a fair amount though the wrap looks to be in pretty good...

Is Your Cue Right For You? Does Professional Instruction Pay Off? How Would You Know?

IF the cue feels good in your hands, and you like the weight, taper, and the tip is giving you decent traction... you can make it work. Howevar, I don't believe it's all necessarily automatic. IMO, the rest aside, the most critical issue is the balance of the cue and how that helps or hinders...

    Right Side/Left Side

I think many of us have funny little things we do assist our play, but I think it can get out of hand. Not too long along I was practicing and a guy came in, took the table next to me, and soon thereafter his instructor came in. I'm trying to mind my own beeswax but then the guy starts to...

    Darren's take on prize money

People (sponsors) are *giving* people money for playing pool. Nobody owes anyone squadousch -- it's strictly bizaness. And when any given player gets tired of how its being done they can step out of line and anyone from an endless scrum of players will step up and fill the void. Lou Figueroa

Cataract surgery with standard Medicare lenses, how's your pool game with these

I'm at 20/20 on the standard wall vision test. I'm good from about two to three feet out -- I need readers though for anything up close. Lou Figueroa

Cataract surgery with standard Medicare lenses, how's your pool game with these

Got these a few years ago — they are the nuts for playing pool. https://iolreference.com/lens/jj/tecnis-eyhance/ Went from 400 vision and needing contacts to 20/20 in my right and 20/25 in my left. I think they cost me $2K extra per eyeball but totally worth it. BTW, it also matters who...

    Cues for Sale... Without Extensions

Had several cues built for me over the years including a Meucci, McDermot, Richard Black, a couple of Ginas, a Sheldon three-piece, and a John Davis/PFD blank conversion. Only the PFD was fitted for an extension and not too long ago I bought a used Shelby, also fitted for an extension...

Yours is an admirable stance but not life's reality. Lou Figueroa

Fred “Scooter” Goodman is a thief. Here’s how he stole from me:

There are many folks out there -- particularly in the pool world -- who live by a different (read "none") code of moral conduct. What is wrong for you or me has nothing to do with them. I have advised several guys who have been taken in one form or another on this issue over the years. Lou...

    Cues for Sale... Without Extensions

Well, we won't really ever know about Mosconi, will we... though I don't know of any current pro running around doing exhibitions at different venues and running 100 every night. As to the extension issue, I still, in my dotage, compete at 1pocket events. And IMO, you cannot effectively...

If you are talking about moi, I don't need to claim much of anything -- do a quick search, you can find a youtube of me running over 100. And what I said was, "...it is almost impossible to play without one." Lou Figueroa
