What causes very slight warping in pool cue butts?

I ordered a cue and received a cue from Paul Dayton back in '03. Great cue that played wonderfully. But it developed a serious warp in the handle near the butt sleeve about two years later. I called him and he told me to send it back. A few months later I came home and found it in a shipping...

Help with thoughts on the cue maker of an unknown Jump / Break pool cue?

Might as well. You'd only be out the amount of time it takes you to send the email. If it is his, you end up with it, and decide to have it refinished, have him do it so he can add his name back to it.

Help with thoughts on the cue maker of an unknown Jump / Break pool cue?

If you Google his cues and check images you'll see he's used all different kinds of rings over the years. I haven't seen any of his cues that have the same ringwork as the cue in your post. But that doesn't mean he hasn't done it. The cue appears to be well build with nice wood. The handle...

Help with thoughts on the cue maker of an unknown Jump / Break pool cue?

The "y" on the end immediately made me think of Jeff Olney. But I was actually able to find a cue with his signature from '07 and the 7 doesn't match. I suppose it could still be one of his but I wouldn't bank on it. Might be worth asking him, though.

    Any help identifying this cue

There is zero doubt in my mind this is a thing. We all know that after a certain point pool is mostly mental. Being able to block outside and inside distractions and noise is a huge part of getting to the next level. One of those internal distractions is your brain running through scenarios...

Most things that are painted "jet black" have a pretty decent amount of blue pigment in there too because it makes it look "blacker." Without that blue pigment it'll look more like a dull charcoal black. Not dull as in "matte" but dull as in "greyish." It'll still look black but it won't...

That's another thing I find fascinating about color... It absolutely affects our emotions and behaviors. We can get emotionally attached to things being a certain color (orange five ball, anyone?) And before anyone says something like, "Well, I like an orange five ball because that's what I'm...

Oh, I agree. But I work in color every day and know it's magenta. A lot of people aren't familiar with that name and call it hot pink or similar. Just adding some cyan to it will definitely get it closer to what we typically think of when we think of purple. But, believe it or not, adding...

Just the right amount of drugs. 😁 Look up "Cornsweet Illusion." They are indeed the same color.

I always heard this but it was about the color magenta which is similar to purple. It's super weird color because it's made up of wavelengths from the extreme opposite ends of the visible spectrum. If I look at it too long it makes my brain uncomfortable like looking at an M.C. Escher optical...

Here's one for you guys. Which square is darker? They're both the same color. If you don't believe me, cover the middle section with your finger. This is your brain creating something based on the way it "should" be.

I realize this post has gone completely off the rails at this point but I can't help myself. I work in the printing industry. Inks and color are my bread and butter. Color, like most things, is a much more complex subject than a lot of people realize. A very big reason for that is because so...

    Adam/Balabushka Rhino shaft?

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

"Plays" probably isn't the right word on my end. "Sounds" is more accurate. I mean, to the best of my knowledge I've never missed a shot or position because of a ferrule. But I have hit a ball and winced because of the sound it made.

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

Oh, I'm very aware of that. I ordered a second shaft for it from Schon and it came with an LBM ferrule. It played like garbage compared to the original and the ferrules didn't look at all alike. Also, I did not get the cue new from Schon. It has seen plenty of action when I got it. So it's...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

It might have been. I wasn't very familiar with ferrule materials back then and, besides recognizing the name, I'm still not familiar with Ivorine. I will say it didn't have weave to it like the LBM ferrules that came on the Samsara I had. As I was typing that I decided to do some Google-Fu...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

The first Schon I had actually had a pretty quiet hit to it. It played stiff but without the loud "PING" or "PLINK" sound. It was an earlier build from when they'd first switched to inlaid (rounded) points. I'm 99% sure the ferrule wasn't Westinghouse Micarta and I'm 100% sure it wasn't...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

Thanks for the link. The screen cap of Joey's post confirms exactly what I experienced with the Samsara I ordered straight from them. His comment about LBM needing to be sealed to keep out chalk dust is spot on as well. If you manage to remove its sealant the weave will end up with chalk dust...

    Butt Protection

Most of George's cues were relatively plain four pointers. And there's been a million and one cue makers out there who have made relatively plain four pointers. So, yeah. Unless someone really knows what they're looking at it probably wouldn't stand out in a crowd. But that's still a pretty...
