APA Needs to STOP Re-Ranking Players During Touraments

Yeah, points for matching sheets seems like a bad idea. We get a point for "score sheet filled out correctly", but we've never failed to get those points, so they're not very strict. Around here, we do compare innings, since that it an objective measure, and is easy to space out. But don't...

    Confusing TV Ball Colors

The funny thing is that those colors were picked before HD, in the days of NTSC. For example, NTSC can't actually render a real maroon, so they picked a different color for the 7. Now, however, the colors aren't very good for the HD color gamut.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

I'm pretty sure that APA has no option to leave a moved ball (like the option in BCA) -- it has to go back to where the players mutually agree. And that anyone on the other team can call a foul (though, of course, the shooting player has to accept, if no ref).

Digicue Blue. Guys are Afraid to Know?

I got one last week, and was getting rather terrible results on the most important (IMO) "steering" category, saying that I was steering to the left (I'm left-handed). Explains why I usually miss to the right when I miss, plus that I seemingly have to put my head at random positions in order to...

    did something unorthodox last night.

Ours (in the Portland, OR area) are open as well (for regular season play; we pay for TriCups). Most of the bars are thrilled to have us bring our 16 or so people in for most of a Wednesday night, as they would be pretty much dead otherwise...

4hrs of pool on espn 2 NOW

Did anyone else notice how little backstroke Kelly Fisher was using? Her warmup strokes were small, in the range of some small number of inches, but the stroke itself was very jabby. Seemed to work for her, but I don't recall her shooting that way when I've watched before.

Web page that calculates APA 8-ball rating from win/loss record

You are absolutely incorrect... The criterion isn't "was the player trying to play a defensive shot", it is "was the player trying to pocket a ball". If you're not *really* trying, then that doesn't qualify.

    APA Tri-Cup Question

In our league, since the Tri-Cups are considered an extension of the previous session, when we played the winter Tri-Cups, we were actually able to use a player who wasn't playing at all in the spring session (and he didn't have to pay his 2015 dues)...

    Rule question

If I am shooting at a deer, and I hit you instead, I would definitely call that an accident. APA (and many others) is "cue ball falls only", so, unless some other ball ended up contacting the cue ball, then it isn't a foul.

wow SVB forfeits match vs Alcano

For everyone who is complaining about the call being nitty -- where do you draw the line (and why is it you who gets to draw the line)? Per the Mosconi Cup non-call, why shouldn't it be a foul if the cue ball touches the player's cue? Then, should a foul be called if the player's clothing...

BCA league night - foul or no foul?

I had a hit last week, where the two balls were about half an inch apart, I jacked up a bit, but put a touch of top on the cue, in order to have it move forward a bit. After the hit, the cue ball only moved forward about two inches, so it all looked proper. Based on the action of the cue ball...

    I never missed a shot

It's pretty easy to get out-safed, after you've knocked most of your balls in. I've seen it stated as "going to war, and killing all of your soldiers first"...

I can't stand the APA.. So I joined.

Well, at least you can then criticize the APA after having tried it...

(APA) What's the worst beating put in an SL4 in a 9-ball match?

The week before last, we had a new guy player, so starting as a SL4, only get three balls when playing against a SL1! He was down to a SL2 the next week; I had heard that guys cannot be SL1 -- does anyone know if that's true?

Burnt out on league 8 and 9 ball

Just out of curiosity, how do most people practice 14.1 -- do you just break a bit harder to avoid the safety start?

There's a guy in my local room that shoots every shot like this (5 sec video)

Is that the way that he shoots, recreated, or is that video actually of him shooting?

Why no pool in the Olympics?

Gerda Hofstatter recently competed in the finals of an event, while being six months pregnant. That should explain why pool isn't an Olympic sport...

    It was my fault, but........

Our APA league has gotten a bit *too* much into sportsmanship lately. Besides the obvious "failure to call the 8", we also have to warn a player *before* he/she commits a double-hit, and advise them how they can avoid double-hitting. I'm actually advocating the opposite. If the rulebooks says...

    cheap rates

Per-Person Is it common to pay per-person per-hour, rather than per-table per-hour? In my very limited experience, most places around here (Portland, OR), that do rent by the hour, rent per-table... Jason

APA should be Sanbagging inc. -

What is sandbagging? It seems there seems to be some confusion as to what sandbagging is. As in the just-posted story, where the 6 was "beaten easily by a 3". Seems to me that, if the 3 goes around "easily beating" higher level players, I don't see much sandbagging going on. Sandbagging...
