    3 piece slate warp

No one advised cutting the slate, No one advised anything other than shimming and that wouldn't work. The slate was not going to level and no one was offering any suggestions aside from shim so its what i decided to do. Glad i did, it worked out great. The good advice was on how to find the low...

    Loose Rails

absolutely, you are right, if you are doing it and money is the only concern then it sure as hell isn't worth it. The time i invested in the table i just put together, if i could have worked the hours i put into it I could have bought a brand new table and had someone install it for me. Having...

    Loose Rails

I would agree that this table is going to fail, but if the guy wants to fix it why not help him fix it instead of poking fun at it. Maybe he can't afford a new table and he has time to burn. Its not a business to everyone. From a business stand point i see where you are coming from but as a...

    3 piece slate warp

Let me start by saying that i do NOT recomend this, this is only what i did and if someone reads this and choses to try it i take no liability. Recomendations for things to do or try were slim and i tried everything i could think of for bracing the frame and trying to take the warp out of the...

    3 piece slate warp

no, low in the center. its one of the end pieces. Low spot runs from side to side and is approximately where the holes are for the bolts that hold the rail on.

all this debate and info about the starett levels are interesting but How do i take this warp out of the one piece of slate?

    3 piece slate warp

Its a stanley max, says on it 0.0005in/in I can see it move when i place a piece of paper under one end of a 2 foot level. Its not easy but i can see it. The starett #98 is what i borrowed and is way way way easier to use and definetly makes a better job, i am not argueing that point, I don't...

    3 piece slate warp

Actually the carpenters level that I was refering to in that post is 0.0005inches per inch which is 0.006 per foot just as I said. The starret levels or machinists level is as you state. What about my reienforceing question? Any info there?

    3 piece slate warp

Ok, I borrowed a machinists level, was going along great till I tried to level the piece with the warp. I can't seem to get the warp out. I think that rails A+B from the sketch are deflecting. I placed an additional rail between C+D at the point of max deflection and shimmed it. What's the best...

    screws or bolts?

This is deffinetly a lower end table and it is plywood supports, but is 3 piece all gound as one unit. I think the screws will work again, Just figured the machine bolts would be a little bit more target spcifit. Also figured if they went all the way through i could use a lock washer or similar...

    screws or bolts?

slate is 3/4 un backed. I think the holes are more or less straight in. I can get the machine bolts with tappered heads like screws so they would counter sink in the slate the same on the top side. I just figured that it would give a finer method of adjustment. I would need 3 1/2 inch in length.

    screws or bolts?

I am getting ready to put my slate on the table i purchased. It was held down with 2 inch #12 screws. These screws dont go all the way through the wood carry beams. I was thinking that it might be better or easier to level if i used machine fine thread bolts and nuts and pre drill through the...

Who wouldn't call a foul on themselves?

Wow.. I am suprised myself. Pool to me is as much a personal win as it is a victory over my opponent. If i knowingly screwed up i can't and wouldn't continue to play that turn. The guys i play with, we don't even call shots anymore, we all know what each other is going to try and if we don't...

    3 piece slate warp

That's .0005 per inch, so it would give you about .006 over 12 inches. Or around 1/32 over the span of the table. I actually didn't think it would be accurate enough.

    3 piece slate warp

Wanted to first say thanks to dontlitethat for calling me up and spending a good amount of time going over some of the basics to get me headed in the right direction. I am now on the hunt for a good level and although i doubt its top quality what do you want to achive when leveling a slate. The...

A Common Lanuage We all Speak

First of all great story. I have also played pool with many people from around the globe, its a starting point to start a conversation if a common language is shared, or just share the game if not. Tramp, this is part of the problem. The states is a great country with lots to offer but just...

    3 piece slate warp

The only thing i can find on the table is a sticker on the warped piece of slate and i think it says BCE on it Should i screw the slate down before or after this shimming? Thanks for the help too.

    3 piece slate warp

Beam A&B are 65-64 mm belo the slate surface so i will have to build it up some how. I got the gist of it. The slate currently is not screwed down yet. Should i screw it down and then try this, or do this and the screw it down? The slate sits on beams C,D,E&F those beams sit on A&B

    3 piece slate warp

OK, so if i understand you correctly i would put a shim under the slate on the main carying beams A & B midway between C&D approximately directly above the legs which is approximately where the greatest deflection is? Only problem here is that the main carying beams A and B are approximately...
