Earl/Johnny match tommorrow - Behind the Scenes - Day 1 Video

Nice job...it's great to see how things go behind the scenes. I have a question though...why did it appear that Earl and Johnny were traveling together? That seemed odd to me due to the nature of this match.

    Palmer on ebay

My guess from looking at it is that it was made from a Brunswick house cue. I have a couple of these laying around that are from the same time period as the 26-1/2's. I've considered converting them because I think they would be pretty cool.

    Table suggestions? Advice?

Look for a gold crown and get a nine footer because it's easier to adjust down in table size. I'd have the pockets tightened to around 4.5 inches.

    Hazards of knocking cue

I'm with Scott on this. Short term flexing or bending of a cue will not warp it. I bend break cues all the time when I break, and there is no warpage. If anything happens to a cue when it falls, it's gonna be a cracked ferrule or a tip popping off. If it hits something on the way down, probably...

    Custom cue observation

Measureman, don't force the issue. If you've got a cue that you love to play with and play well with, then leave it alone. I've got some customs and they sit on the wall while I play with a Predator. I actually think a few of the cues that sit on my wall, including a Pechauer, feel and hit...

Do you play "Close to your work" on purpose for potential hooks?

I like this way of thinking Dave...I've never thought about this in such an exact way, but I'm going to bring this to the table with me from now on.

Do you shoot better gambling or in tourney play?

I think there is a couple of factors when you are playing someone for money. The money on the line is usually more substantial when you are gambling. Also, I feel it is easier to bear down when you are going against one opponent, as opposed to going through a field of players. In a tournament...

Is 30 Degrees (1/2 Ball) The Best Cut Angle for Position Play?

I'm gonna have to agree with Patrick...If there was one angle I would feel comfortable about getting anywhere on the table with, it would be 30 degrees. Of course, table layout dictates the use of other angles, as well as straight in shots, but I feel for the most part, 30 degrees is a good...

Pool name for my future jack russell puppy?

Since the Jack Russell originated in England, I think the name "English" would be appropriate. Or maybe "Screw".

Practice partners with mismatched skill levels

To expand on what Neil said, you could even alternate every shot in a scotch doubles sort of format which will force the both of you to play precise position and make your shots.

When do you start thinking defensively?

I usually only play safe.......when I want to win. Don't forget that safety play can also be used to slow your opponent down. Sometimes when I can tell the match is going to be a battle, I put a couple nice safeties on my opponent just to cool his stroke down a bit.:grin-devilish:

Need a set of balls, lots of choices....

I'm betting that if you bought some Centennials you would not kick yourself for it. It seems that with pool balls, the more you pay, the higher the quality. Although, I think you pay a little more for the Centennials aesthetics.
