Did you really lose by bad luck?

I agree 100% luck exists in pool as it does in every aspect of life. What I don't believe though is that luck is to blame for our losses, it's our mistakes we need to blame. And to me personally, when someone says they don't play 9 ball because of the luck factor it sounds like they're saying...

Did you really lose by bad luck?

It can be tough but my only argument is that the break in BB 9 ball is so important and you have to know how to make a ball. If not it's a miss. You're dry break was a mistake. I would also say you made mistakes in the first set you lost that could have been avoided. It's not possible to play...

    American Rotation - Who plays?

I plan to start playing this year. It seems like there's quite a bit of potential/upside for very little downside. It is very flexible as you said.

Did you really lose by bad luck?

Sure better players miss on the right side but I would argue that the worse players get more "lucky rolls". They miss more often and miss worse sending the object ball around table and more likely to get lucky. Better players miss less often and would be more likely to barely miss and rattle a ball.

Did you really lose by bad luck?

That's all I'm saying. The balls go exactly where you hit them (unless you catch a piece of chalk or the table rolls off). If you think firing in a ball and going 3 rails for shape to end up an inch short and hooked is bad luck, the ball simply went where you hit it and you played poor shape by...

Are College Billiard Teams Still Popular?

The whole amateur status NCAA requirement would prevent most real intercollegiate competition from evolving. The best pool players, those that would best represent colleges, have forfeited their amateur status long before starting college.

Did you really lose by bad luck?

My biggest pet peeve in pool is the number of excuses about losing because of bad luck. Unless you played a perfect set with 0 mistakes (impossible) and your opponent slopped in the 9 hill hill you really have no reason to complain about bad luck. In all honesty you made mistakes earlier in the...

Are College Billiard Teams Still Popular?

Unfortunately collegiate billiards will never be popular or a major NCAA sport as long as professional billiards isn't popular. NCAA teams wouldn't benefit the colleges like football and basketball do.

    2015 BEF Junior Nationals

Sounds much better than the colleges and universities the national championships used to be held at. The equipment was generally subpar.

Pool halls with multiple diamond tables?

Or not necessarily how many but can you name or list some? Qmasters in virginia beach is one with roughly a dozen of each but it's the only one I know of.

Pool halls with multiple diamond tables?

How many pool halls in the country have multiple diamond 9 footers or 7 footers, enough to hold tournaments on just those tables?

Low deflection / Low squirt shaft comparison

I'm thinking they're averages of multiple ratings but not sure

Low deflection / Low squirt shaft comparison

It would be great if we had 100% accurate and reliable results for this but unfortunately it's impossible to scientifically/experimentally test this without a robot. There are too many variables including players' differences in opinions/perceived rating on the amount of deflection, different...

Who best to head a new Players org?

I agree you can't both play and manage but I do believe it's best to have a former player manage, maybe someone that has "retired" from playing. A former player would best understand the needs and desires of today's players

Who best to head a new Players org?

I think modeling after golf or tennis is a good idea where there is 1 pro tour and say 4 "majors" or "grand slams" that are distinctly different...say 10 ball on 9ft, one pocket on 9 ft, straight pool on 9ft, and 8 ball on 7ft.

Darren Appleton's post on FB about the pro division at SBE

Maybe it's just me but pro pool can be boring to watch. Just look where the crowd is...it tends to be around action at such events and not in the pro arena. In the pro arena it's quiet and you can't talk and you don't see the players' personalities as much. On an action table the spot makes...

Darren Appleton's post on FB about the pro division at SBE

Players continue to play despite the drop in added money just like players attend the US Open despite payout troubles...the potential paycheck is still too good for a pool player to pass up. They can't afford not to play. And as soon as 10 top pros commit to boycotting an event it greatly...
