In my experience, it holds true. I 100% get more deflection when my stroke is quick from the start than when I smoothly accelerate through to the target. It affects other areas as well but a smooth stroke makes many fairly powerful shots seem effortless.

I was called once two years ago and you had to make a ball after the break. I had to rifle the CB to shorten a cross bank in the side and hope I didn't scratch to get paid. I made the bank but was left with no shot and took home $4xx. Not too bad.

Agree 100%. The fact that the incoming players are all too happy to take the free game is disappointing. If the ref called a foul on my opponent for grabbing balls out of a pocket after the last shot I would take the BIH and shoot the cue ball directly into a pocket.
