Help me understand the logic behind this rule

Without it you could call a safety every time you can shoot the lowest numbered ball in but can't get shape on the next one.

    Tip radius... bad idea

Below is a link to an old post from Patrick Johnson which does a great job of illustrating the impact of tip size and shape (assuming a relatively level cue). http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=3582689&postcount=36

    Tip radius... bad idea

1.125" from center ball would be the bottom of the ball. Actual miscue limit is about half that.

    APA Down East Rant

Unless your local bylaws state differently, I do not know of any APA rule requiring that a player can not play without ID and APA card. The APA Team Manual calls it Verification of Identity - while you can ask for ID, your only recourse if it is not available is to play the match and file a...

How to CLEAN Irish Linen wrap ?

I have been using Diamondback Irish Linen Wrap Cleaner for a while now with good results. Spray it on and wipe it off with a lint free cloth. Amazing how much chalk dust accumulates in the wrap. It also does a good job of of removing (or at least covering) smoke smell.

    Tip covers?

I initially had one (easily solvable) problem with these. They fit so snugly removal is difficult due to suction. Drilling a small hole in the side of the top took care of that. They worked quite well after that.

Insidepool: Thanks for the stream. But won't buy day 2 & 3...

I also bought the first night but will not be returning for 2nd and 3rd night due to numerous issues including: Match was (and still is) advertised as beginning at 7 EST. After buying the stream, was advised that it does not actually start until 8 and no logins are allowed until 7:30...

    Golf Cue

The McDermott website shows the cue (M7-07) as having an original list price of $425 and a current blue book of $315. Quite a bit shy of the $750 alleged in the ebay listing.

Huh. All that fuss about Shane "spinning" the ball, was a misunderstanding.

The way I read the rules (below), SVB had every right to ask the ref that question and have it answered. The referee shall answer players’ inquiries regarding objective data, such as whether a ball will be in the rack, whether a ball is behind the head string, what the count is, how many...

    When you miss a ball

Unless you are using an appropriate amount of outside english, a cut always produces some throw. It is significantly lower for a rolling cue ball than for a sliding cue ball but, for anything other than a shallow cut, could still certainly cause a miss on a longer shot if not taken into account.

should we make new tournament rule/ipods?

BCAPL rules prohibit use of electronic devices during a match. FIrst offense is a warning and a foul thereafter. I usually do not have a problem with an opponent occasionally checking their phone but there are some who severely abuse them. What I often find more annoying is the use of...

    scoring defensive shots in apa

The APA rules state: "A Defensive Shot is a shot where the shooter deliberately misses so as to pass his turn at the table to his opponent. Simply stated, it is a shot where there is no intent on the part of the shooter to legally pocket a ball of his category. Intent is the determining...

    Pool Cue Shaper

I have the Bowtie and two Willards (one Nickel, one Dime). It is hard to beat the Bowtie for an all in one tool but I normally use one of the Willards if I am shaping (currently the Dime, but that could change tomorrow, depending on my constantly changing theory of the perfect tip).

How can you determine your dominant eye?

That is simply incorrect. One of the ways near sighted vision is often corrected is called monovision. In cases where correction is required both at a distance and close-up (for reading) a common alternative to bifocal lenses is monovision. Typically the dominant eye is corrected for vision...

How can you determine your dominant eye?

Yes, an optician should be able to tell you which eye is dominant. Alternately, the method lukemindish mentions in a prior post works quite well.
