    Short Cue Butts

Contact Schmelke Cues. They made me a 23" butt (3/8x10) for the exact purpose of using in a too-small room. I forget the price but it was very reasonable.

    Wrapless vs wrapped cue

The first cue I bought (Players HXTE10) had a linen wrap. I figured "with wrap is better than without, right?" I was wrong (for me). One day I had to play with a house cue and realized that I had a better grip on the cue; the linen wrap had always felt slippery, but I was too inexperienced to...

Anyone find it harder to shoot with a 30" shaft?

Years ago I ordered an OB1 30" shaft and never looked back. Love it. Obviously, when I switched to an OB2 I went with the 30" version too. The cue (OB121) just feels better balanced with the 30" shaft.

    Introducing the youth to cue-sports!

He should separate the Instructor portion of the website from the Youth Program portion. First thing a parent sees upon visiting the site is a bunch of 20-somethings drinking alcohol. No exactly the right impression for a parent to say "yeah, I want my kid involved in that."

    Lost cue in Florida Villages

I posted it on TalkoftheVillages.com, the Villages community website. Let you know if I hear anything. Update: one reply to my post on the Villages website was: "Call Churchill Downs Recreation Center. Probably comes from someone playi ng billiards there. (352) 751-6200 2375 Churchill Downs...

Home table: short cues on long or short rails?

The table at our community center suffers the same woes; in this case it's only if the ball is within 2" of the short rails. I had Schelmke make me a 54" cue and works like a charm. I think I paid $100 for a very plain jane. I would chose the short rails since you have only 1/2 the chance of...

    Recommendations for portable oxygen concentrators?

Many thanks for all your ideas. I think my first step will be to go with my supplier's smaller tank along with a conserver regulator rather than a constant flow regulator. If that works, it's a cheap solution for me. (signed up for a low-cost, high-deductible HMO a year ago when I was a picture...

    Recommendations for portable oxygen concentrators?

Many thanks Gold Crown. Yes, the ActiveOX has been on my list from the start of my research. Looks like a nice unit, although pretty pricey. Forgot to mention that I only need 2 liters per minute which most all of the units will do (most go up to 4-5 lpm) but it needs to be prescription...

Your pool cue thoughts before I make my Purchase

If you're playing in dive bars, forget the break cue. You can't hold two cues at once, so one of them will always be unattended and open to theft. Use a house cue to break (unless you like playing with hard tip, then use your playing cue) and position your playing cue where you can keep an eye...

    Donation-based instruction?

I would think the biggest obstacle would be getting the owner/publisher of the material to agree to donation-based distribution. If they're asking $40 for their DVD -- and have a good reputation and selling reasonably well -- why taking the risk of getting $5 donations? That's a lot of volume...

    Recommendations for portable oxygen concentrators?

Hi guys, I've been diagnosed with lung cancer and need to be on an oxygen concentrator 24 hrs a day. No big deal, but the "portable" solution my home healthcare provider dropped off is pretty unwieldy -- 10lb tank on a push trolley with only about 3-1/2 hours of "air-time". Not so good for...

A New Way to One Hole

While I appreciate the effort to make pool more public-friendly, I fear your idea just introduces more "rules" but doesn't change the fact that pool is not a spectator sport. If the public doesn't want to watch 9-ball, they certainly won't watch one-pocket regardless of any changes to the rules...

Freddie Agnir (Az member Cornerman) In The Booth @ US Open

Freddie does a great job. Best I've heard though (alive, so not counting Grady Matthews) is John Schmidt and (hold on to your hats) Earl Strickland. Obviously they both know the game inside and out. Schmidt is also very entertaining and funny without trying to hog the mic or ignore the game...

    Wpa contract

That's exactly what WPA wants to do. Read the contract; do you really think they care about Player Meetings or Publicity Appearances, or that those make any difference to the future of pool? No. They want to use the players to force promoters to put on WPA-sanctioned (i.e. fees paid to WPA)...

    Wpa contract

But therein lies the problem: there are no crowds. Just because it's a WPA event, doesn't mean more people are going to watch it. (Actually, from what I can gather, WPA appears to be a rather poor marketer of events). Sponsors only care about secondary stuff like Sanctioning Body, etc. AFTER...

    Wpa contract

The contract is simply an attempt by the WPA to monopolize the tournament industry and force non-WPA tournament promoters to join the organization. (i.e. if you -- Mr. Tournament Promoter -- don't join WPA none of the players will play in your event). Some people think this is a good idea. I...

Have Yale heard the WPA nonsense and the US Open?

The WPA agreement is what a lot of people have been hoping for. Central governing body, unified rules, blah, blah, blah. As I've said before, be careful what you wish for. The existing structure reflects the true state of the industry. You can try to force a new structure on the industry, but...
