Diamond Dave learns a lesson (and probably does irreversible damage to his back)

Finally, I curled up in a fetal position on the hotel bed, the only position that is relatively pain free, my feet burning from standing for 8 hours, and realized I basically couldn’t remember any of the 8 matches I played. I remembered that I won the finals with a break and run, I remembered a...

Diamond Dave learns a lesson (and probably does irreversible damage to his back)

Hi Everyone! Diamond Dave here! I had an interesting experience playing in a big tournament in Seoul last weekend, and it really reinforced some classic nuggets of wisdom for me. Backstory: On December 30th last year, I had been sitting cross-legged on my computer chair for about an hour. A...

    A new 14.1 Challenge Event.

Call pocket? I think as long as it’s call pocket, if the cueball leaves the table due to table conditions, it should just be replaced and the shooter continues. Otherwise the high run attempts will be too defensive. No one likes to see long bouts of safety in high run attempts.

Tyler Styer's disgusting jump-kick shot and my poor table cloth

Fair ;) I just meant that it was ridiculously, sickeningly good (regardless of the run required).

Tyler Styer's disgusting jump-kick shot and my poor table cloth

Hahaha, I actually heard that a few times while editing and slowing the shot right down, finally figured out that its because I often follow straight through to the table. I'm pretty sure its the tip brushing off the slate ( I hope lol).

Tyler Styer's disgusting jump-kick shot and my poor table cloth

Hi everyone! After my US Open 2021 video: I had a friend challenge me to recreate Styer's sickening jump-kick shot from the world teams event. This is by far the hardest shot I've tried to recreate, including Efren's Z shot. Enjoy!

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

I’m pretty sure if you showed a random person our posts and asked them to assign the word blithering to one or the other, they wouldn’t choose mine. At no point did I say this is a bad training exercise. At no point did I try to one-up Bert. The only things I’ve said are: 1. There’s no way...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

And as opposed to you asking me (not a professional coach) to compare my coaching credentials to a professional coach, I'm simply asking you to justify your own words. You explain that replacing the object ball with a center ball hit is the only way to achieve that. You even support this...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

This is fun. I like merry-go-rounds. Here, I'll use blue text for my replies because you seem to ignore most of what I say. Really? This is your test for center ball? 1. My tip doesn't leave chalk marks all over the cueball. 2. Lining up a dot to be center ball relies on you being able...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

You see all this? And this? This is what 7stud was disagreeing with because you contrasted replacing the object ball, which "as far as I am aware, can only be done when hit absolutely perfectly", with a stop shot, which "can be brought about by a different combinations of shot speeds and...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

And I repeat, if the same thing can be achieved through multiple ways, how do I know I'm hitting center ball? You made a lot of definitive statements and waxed lyrical about center being the ONLY way to achieve this half ball roll-over effect as compared to the much more lenient stop shot...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

Sure, but I guarantee he regularly played shots harder than that when he played 9 ball. I also guarantee that if he did that to a table in a hall I ran, he'd get a warning and then get kicked out. Not hyperbole; I've done exactly that to players in a snooker room I owned.

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

If, as I've just shown in the above video, you can achieve the same outcome without center ball, how does the student know they are hitting center ball? They might have chameleon eyes and think that two tips below center is center, like I played the above drag shot. They can replace the object...

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

Those few sentences are a bit more insightful than the 10000 words you wrote on the previous page about something that is just wrong.

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

Dud What are you talking about? Slamming the balls on the table destroys the cloth. I don’t care who does it. And as someone has already pointed out, the slight stun run through effect you’re talking about can be achieved with a drag, not just center ball as you’ve claimed.

    Practice - Drills...NOPE!

The is the hardest you’ll ever need to a hit a ball playing 9 ball, he says playing on a bar box, but nonsense regardless. Then proceeds to bang the balls on the table to demonstrate how to ruin your cloth. At which point I stopped watching.

If you can do this, you probably don’t need what 90% of players need.

Is this the ONLY way to get better at pool?

The "with thought" part is the problem :)

Is this the ONLY way to get better at pool?

Right, that’s the other problem. I don’t want to make videos on stuff that has been done 20 times already, which means getting into more niche shots or esoteric topics, which means more detailed explanations, and stuff that will bore more people. And I totally use titles that I think will grab...
