    Athena Cues?

Looking for a cue for my girlfriend, a small 5'4". Athena cues are in the $100 range, anyone have any experience with them? They're specifically made for women, or so I've read. While I immediately think it's a gimmick, I'd rather ask for opinions.

    Break Cue Weight

Thank you! I couldn't find a resource like this despite how much I tried.

    Break Cue Weight

I'll introduce another factor into this. I'm mostly playing 8-ball, cutthroat and other 8-ball-rack games with friends, so power rather than cue ball control is the important factor at the moment. For 9-ball, I'd agree that it seems a bit heavyweight, but for the time being a heavy cue sounds...

    Break Cue Weight

I've only ever broke with my playing cue, and I feel like I'm struggling against myself to make a cue of that weight move strongly enough to break the balls. This is also doubtless due to bad form, but I feel like I might be more comfortable with a heavier break cue.

    Break Cue Weight

I'm a taller guy but prefer to use a soft stroke on most occasions, and would like to focus on cue ball control rather than power during the break shot. I'm looking at a 25oz break cue. Some people swear by the weight and some people prefer a lightweight break cue. Since I prefer a softer...

    Break shaft on playing cue

Re-reading your original post, I'm actually pretty much agreeing with you. Sorry mate. I still stand by my cues.

    Break shaft on playing cue

Sure, I'm an amateur who can pot balls pretty well and hasn't competed in any tournaments. That does make me low-level. I own two Schmelke cues, which if you do not know are fantastically-built American cues in the $100 range. They're consistently praised for their value. I've shot with much...

    Break shaft on playing cue

Thanks for all the opinions guys. When I refer to "cheaping out on a cue" I'm basically talking about anything in the $30-$50 range. I'd never consider an $80 cue a "cheap cue." I clearly have some decision to make about where I go from here. Thanks, guys!

    Break shaft on playing cue

I'd rather not cheap out on a cue, and if I avoided buying an entirely new one I could at least have the money to buy a nice shaft. Besides, I have two playing cues (and haven't decided which one I like better yet) so I could just show up with both, the break shaft on one. I appreciate the input.

    Break shaft on playing cue

Thanks! I couldn't think of why there'd be any difference between the butts of a playing/breaking cue. It's the Schmelke brass insert, so it's a small but sturdy joint, not too terrible for speed.

    Break shaft on playing cue

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I want to break with my playing cue but with the shaft from a break cue.

    Break shaft on playing cue

I apologize if this is in the wrong place of the forum. I recently bought a playing cue (Schmelke if that helps). I'd rather not have to buy a separate breaking cue. Is there any difference between a "playing butt" and "breaking butt" and would it be reasonable to simply own a playing shaft and...

    My Schmelke Turned 25 Today!

We've been through a lot. Never played any tournies but I've finished plenty of racks with this baby! Gorgeous as the day I bought her 25 years ago. 1988...a long time ago. Cheers, folks! Have some pics. Any other Schmelke lovers here? Mine's still straight as an arrow.
