Top pool moments in my lifetime

That was him - Steve Cusick. After he won the NCAA the Daily Illini ran an interview in which he said he was going to try the pro tour but I don't know what happened.

Top pool moments in my lifetime

I go way back so Miz's 4 in a row 14.1 titles stick. Pool was actually famous there for awhile due a lot to him. In fact when I was an undergrad in the 70's there was an NCAA 14.1 championship. A guy from my university won the whole thing in 1977.

    Best playing cue under $1,000

I have a basic inlaid Pechauer 19 oz with maple shaft and love it. Trying to sell 2 old cues to raise the cash for CF shaft. Would recommend. they have a nice selection of looks at competitive prices.

    14.1 high runs... be honest

37 by myself (8' table), 28 in competition (yes, only one break ball, and yes, it was 44 years ago)

Benefits of playing opponents with less skill

It definitely has its downside. Two weeks ago in APA handicap league I (a 6.5 playing as a 7) was matched against an SL 2 in 8-ball. On rack 2 I tried a dumb show on the 8, cue ball rolled in. So the entire rest of the match (5 more racks) I had to completely abandon any aggressiveness for...

8 Ball Break - Hitting the 2nd Ball

What size table are you playing on? Probably different results for different sizes. that said I don't like the 2nd ball break since it seems that when you miss-hit, a lot of balls congregate on the side rail, on the same side you broke from. This leads to slow racks.

This is why we can't have nice things

This is happening at the APA, where the stakes are minuscule. One of my own teammates is an inveterate dumper who has managed to keep an 8 Ball SL5 so the qualifiers are easier. I will never understand cheating in such minor events.

What type of shot do you enjoy the most?

I like to execute a tricky breakout shot and have it work out. By tricky I mean it should not be one where you can just blast away - you need to try to figure out where the tied up balls are going to be when the shot is done, and make sure the cue ball is on one of them.

    just a lil rant

Meh. Treat it for what it is, and enjoy it or skip it. In my handicap league there is no smoking or drinking allowed. very little "throwing off" or sandbagging so more skilled players play against each other. I have a little fun playing the other 7's (we're probably 6's in a tough league)...

    Mike Siegel wins 40K

Probably because of all of the yapping, cue-waving, and picking at the felt.

    Wwyd

This would be my choice. I always prefer draw anyway.

Best way to shoot this shot

I would try very low, minimal outside English. I don't like outside spin when the object ball is on the rail unless I am trying to dampen the run-out. But I'm APA so take with some salt.

John Schmidt - How high will he go?

    That's around 5 hours without a mistake. I am guessing between 450 and 500.

    Would you have integrity?

I would def call it on myself. If you cheat like this, especially on such an obvious foul, you set a bad tone for the rest of the match, and also word gets around. I would not like to be known as a cheat.

Concentration! How do the best do this?

[Adderall/Pot] Funny you should mention that. I had some dental work done a couple years ago and was prescribed way more Oxy than I needed. I tried taking a small dose (1/2 tablet) an hr before shooting and found I was dialed in at a very high level in that condition. "You take drugs...

Concentration! How do the best do this?

that's what the pros have most over the top-flight amateurs and so on down the line. The Snooker players in particular with their 4-hour matches and high stakes (no wins - no groceries) must have truly astounding powers of concentration. Our hall usually has godawful music blaring at 90 dB -...

    who's your favorite all-around player?

Watching Sigel's old matches now is painful for me. His chronic slowness, picking at the felt, yammering, and addressing the shots over and over drive me nuts now. But I like watching 14.1 and he's one of the best ever at that game.

    who's your favorite all-around player?

SVB seems like a really good guy and of course plays as well as anyone. Allison Fisher is fun to watch and looks great. But for viewing pleasure (youtube) Ronnie O is pretty much an obsession of mine.
