    John Schmidt has beaten Mosconi

I think it's more of a personal thing for me. My father worked at a Baltimore pool hall in the 50s, and got to play 14.1 with Mosconi. Can't quite describe why I feel this way, unless it's because my dad now played with the best 14.1 player of his era, and not of all time. I dunno. What...

    John Schmidt has beaten Mosconi

I have to admit, there's a part of me saddened at this, and I'm not sure why. Mostly, I'm very pleased for John Schmidt on this achievement, though! Congrats!

    Cloth on home table

860HR on an 8 foot AMF here. Love it.

    Schmelke (and vendor) review

Every time I have guests over to play pool, I feel sorta bad unless they bring their own cues. The house cues I got when I bought the table are nice (and were the upgraded two piece jobbies), but aren't nearly as nice as the Mezz I shoot with, or the Adam (Japan-made) Bushka cue I used to use...

How big are the pockets on the table(s) you mainly practice/play on?

Mine are 4.5 on an AMF 8 footer. Can a mechanic open them up a bit?

Antique Brunswick Pool Balls for $35? (pic)

I'd give him the break, pocket. No WAY he makes legal contact.

    Aramith Tournament Balls

I read it that he bought "Aramith" from China Billiards based on the reviews here of the Cyclops they sold.

14.1 Scoring needs to be revamped !!

It takes skill to generate a quality break shot, therefore balls pocketed during that shot were not strictly through chance.

    I am keeping a secret

Lessee... My entries into this sweepstakes: 1) Balsa wood is confirmed as the best cue material in the world. 2) McDermott makes cues for Black Boar. 3) There is now a way to quantify which cues "hit a ton". 4) "Pete" is really not that sneaky. 5) Willie Mosconi's run of 526 was actually...

    Straight pool instuction

I second the recommendation for Phil Capelle's books. I found Play Your Best Straight Pool a bit more enjoyable than the break shot patterns book, mainly due to the broader array of topics.

Breakshot...What would you do ? and what i did !!

Cool shot, but I don't think I would have the gumption to try that. I think I would call safe and pocket the ball, leaving a full rack with the ball in the dead center of the table. I'm sure there are downsides to that, but that's what I would likely choose to do.

    What ball set to get

I would recommend 860HR cloth for an 8 foot table (what I use), and I would go with new Centennials with that table. Same formula as the Super Aramith Pros, although I play the Aramith Duramith Tournaments.

Pool is second fiddle to cornhole on ESPN

I hate the way the Aramith TV set of cornholing bean bags look.

    Some news

So very sorry for your loss, Jennifer. Your father will definitely be missed here, too.

What will your cue be worth?

It will either be worth roughly $500 (adjusted for inflation) OR $200,000. The value depends entirely on how successful I am at producing a fully nude version of "Thatcher, the Musical!" for the big screen, and if I receive the Oscar for it.

    Spots on Arimath Tournament Balls

I used to get these spots on Super Aramith Pros (same formulation as Centennials, BTW), used in a leather drop pocket table, and Championship 760 cloth. The cloth also showed numerous white burn marks. Since going to 860HR and Duramith balls, they've stopped, both the spots on the balls and...

    Cue racks with sharp edges

Thanks for the ideas. I hadn't thought of felt. I suppose I could curl it up over the ridge of the wood. My main concern is scraping the shaft as I insert it. (<insert joke here>).

    Cue racks with sharp edges

I ran a search, but when you search for "cue rack" here, and have a specific question... I got a new cue rack for Christmas. The holes the cues pass through up top are not rounded. I was wondering if anyone has experienced damage to their cues through normal use/placement of the cues into...

    Anyone here drive a motorcycle?

Before I turned my VTX into a "bagger", I used a bungee cord to wrap around a soft case, attaching it to one side of the handlebars and thread it around the other side, then a loop around the case on that side. Snug as a bug in a rug.
