It was 1964 and Pete came into a long gone pool room in Toms river N.J.

Nobody knew who he was and he challenged the room to play.

Ernie Lager a pretty good player stepped up.

Ernie beat him several games of straight pool.

Pete asked "Who are you?"

Fast forward a bit and he came in to Park Billiards in Neptune N.J. and

again challenged the room.

Fast Eddie Sontag stepped up and beat him playing 9 ball.

During the game a rather large crowd had gathered to watch.

After Pete quit he asked if there was anyone else that would play straight pool.

Ernie stepped up and said me. Pete says "Not you again!" and he left.

I was present both times. Funny stuff.

Pete Margo, Allen Hopkins, Ray Martin and Steve Mizerak were among those pool players who were auditioning for the famous Miller High-Life TV commercials, "...Even when you're just showing' off!" and "Practice, practice, practice."

Allen and Ray couldn't deliver the lines perfectly, so they were eliminated.
Pete spoke the lines very well in his natural Jersey accent, but he was eliminated because the Miller ad agency thought he was too skinny to be a beer drinker.
Anyway, the Miz was the right size and delivered the lines perfectly "on cue", so he became a multi-millionaire from those TV ads and personal appearances, endorsements, etc.

Congratulations, Pete, on your induction into the Straight Pool Hall of Fame.
