Where would you go?

If you could only travel to one pool event of the year... where would you go? Give me your top 3 maybe.

Planning a trip next year. And haven't been to many tournaments or big pool venues. Looking to mostly be a railbird or donate here and there. I'd lIke to pick one tournament and base my travels off that.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Derby City Classic in Indianna at the Horseshoe casino in January. Simply the best venue for players ans spectators alike. The best players are there and the biggest action. Plus it's a nice little casino.

Derby City

Derby City is a lot of bang for the buck! The top players are there along with a handful of classic old timers that were previously top players. The Casino is a great venue and the cost to be a spectator is (imo) more than reasonable. Lodging is available in Indiana or Louisville, KY at fair prices and plenty of night life around if you want a break from the pool.

Based upon what you said below, I suggest THE BEST WEEKEND BAR TABLE TOURNAMENT IN AMERICA: White Diamonds 9 ball event in Lafayette, Louisiana.

BTW, I like the question as I too enjoy going to new tournaments and making a donation here and there.

I wonder which tournaments do people enjoy the most. There are most likely some tournaments that we don't hear much about but are a blast.

The Richard Sweet Memorial at Mr. Cues II is a blast, although I have only been to one of them. It starts tomorrow.

If I am playing in the derby classic? Can I still get into action on the tables there if I muster up some gusto?

Also, I like to buy, sell, and trade cues. I would imagine a little of that can be done at the derby?

Any pool halls that I must stop at along the way? We would be driving down from Wisconsin.

Thanks for all of the input. I am pretty excited!

You can gamble on the tables after tournament hours and in areas where they aren't using the tables towards the end of the event. If you arrive early morning or stay up late night there's lots of table to get on. Also there is a "practice room' with 6 or 8 tables...and a bunch of degenerates who will try to rob you blind.

Lots of cues bought sold and traded there. Best to list them here a week or two prior to the event and get some numbers from guys who will be there. I've some several cues this way. There are several big cue dealers too.

Don't know about pool hall en route...but if you got cash you can make action practically anywhere.

Derby City Classic, for me.
Next would probably be the Ozarks National Boats, Billiards, and Bar-B-Q extravaganza held every fourth year on beautiful Lake Tanycomo, near Forsyth.
Speed boat races, a big eight-ball tournament, and all the beer and brisket you can eat. My niece Karla Fay was a past B,B, and B, queen, there.
In case any of you single guys out there are interested, here's her picture from when she had just graduated from beauty college.
