***SOLD***
Richard made this cue for me in 1973 while I was going to the University of Houston. At that time, his shop was located in his garage in a Houston suburb. The cue is constructed from bird’s eye maple and ebony with ivory dots. If you look closely in the 4th image, you will see a purple hue in the outside veneer (Szambotti Prong) indicating that the cue’s forearm was supplied by Gus Szambotti. This was first noticed by Joe Van on this forum.
There are 4 points that are extremely even and proportional. The joint is stainless and there is a single shaft that is approximately 12mm. The linen wrap is black with silver specs. The cue is beautiful and in good condition. It has seen many hours of use over the last 40+ years and has a couple of minor flaws. I have been told by many that this is one of the best hitting Blacks that they have ever seen.
This cue may be of interest to collectors but will more likely be of interest to someone that wants a daily player with a pedigree and historical value. After all, there are not many 40+ year old Blacks out there with Gus Prong. I am including an It’s George 1x1 case that is in very good condition. The cue has lived in this case for many years.
I have been asked a couple of times already if Richard signed the cue. He did not. He was apparently not doing that in his early days. He must have felt that he was not particularly famous then. Richard has provided me a LOA for this cue confirming that it is a genuine Richard Black and that he used a Szamboti blank when he made it. - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8843085/Brad Fountain.doc
