For some reason im suckin pretty bad in my 8 ball league but rockin the tables on 9 ball. Granted 8 ball is on the 8 foot tables and 9 ball is on the bar boxes. I can rock the 8 footers at my local pub all day but when its time to play 8ball league, I cave. I make every excuse I can as to why I lost (its usually the other guys fault somehow). I think I loose focus somewhere. Maybe I need to see a sports shrink for that.

I played well last night. Beat another SL6 5-0. Didn't miss many shots, was not out of position much and kicked the ball well when he snookered me. Would've got another rackless patch if I hadn't lost the lag. Very surprised he was a 6 but he played a lot of defense once he got down 3-0. Alas, we were up 6-2 after my match but still ended up losing the battle 8-6. My last two teammates that played didn't even take one rack. We are suckin ass this session. Going into last night we were in 9th place after 7 weeks. Apparently if we don't finish in 6th or better we could lose our ability to play for vegas in June.

We have a similar rule here, any team that's LTC qualified has to maintain at least a 50% winning percentage until the Vegas qualifier tourney. That's to keep teams from getting qualified and then dumping until the qualifier, to keep their skill levels down.

I've never heard of it being enforced here. I don't recall any team being in jeopardy of it, either....

Without getting into much detail, he said I talk too much and something along the lines of hitting me in the face with a cue. I don't have time or care to bother with childish behavior (kicking and screaming when he's losing).

Damn 2-pack Dave...sounds like an interesting night. If I were to guess alcohol probably affected some of his decisions/words. It's rare someone wants to get into it solely for someone talking to much.

We have a couple "talkers" here that might prompt such a reaction.... :p

Agreed, its silly to let it cause a person to threaten violence

Exactly. Don't really want to take the chance of it being enforced. It would be nice if my teammates would stop playing so chitty! :D Last night was the third week in a row that I've scored half of the team's points. :p Maybe we've become complacent as we've finished in first place and won the division playoffs the last two sessions. We're definitely not sandbagging though. Most of our players are honest...they just suck. lol

Played one of the best players in the area on the big table last night. He broke, missed a first shot, I ran out and ran the next one. That was a nice start, but dogging a couple of near-rail cut shots at the end of two runs cost me dearly. I ended up losing 4-5 in 17 innings with about 10 total defensive shots. Had a chance, but against that caliber of player I know I have to play very well to win, especially on the big tables. Tonight is masters and I'm looking forward to it. Next week is our big BCA regional.. time to get ready!

Thanks, Matt! I've been playing fairly well, so I hope to do okay. There are almost 200 in the A division, 10 or so will get moved up to Master. Sorta hoping I make it, but sorta hoping I don't! :D Trying to save up cash for a deposit on a couple of Diamond boxes for my hangout, so not sure how much I'll have for action or maybe I'll need to be more careful. Also playing with a decent team in the open team division, so there should be a few bucks more.

I hear Lenny's doing the streaming as well. Maybe he can find some action, if he's got time. There's always something going on after the matches finish for the night. A side room with 6 or 8 tables is kept open 24/7. Last year I spent too much time there and felt a bit worn out by the end of the tournament.

Even though I'm pretty sure they don't read this forum, I'd like to congratulate my Masters team for coming in 2nd in the city tournament the weekend before last. Our success was mostly due to our depth and ability to play as a team; when one player took a loss, the rest of the team did a good job of stepping up to make up the points.

It was a tough field, so I was happy to beat the teams we did and felt like the team that beat us in the finals (soundly, I might add) deserved it. We actually ended up playing against only 5 different teams because we had rematches against two teams that we put into the loser's bracket after we took our first loss, which was from the same team we lost to in the finals.

Anyhow, I got to play pool all weekend and had a bit of cash to show for it. Can't complain about that, right? Besides, there's always next session... :)

went to my new napa league tonight. when i got there i found out the official session starts next week. the 1st night is just a get together and the lo holds a stick tournament. free tournament.. just pay quarters for your matches. true double elimination. non handicapped race to 2 with the winner getting a new cue.

well as usual i started out crappy and my opponent took full advantage winning 2-0 in short order.

i worked my way through the losers bracket and got to the finals. who do i face ? why my 1st opponent tonight of course.

different story this time i won 2-1 with his win due to me scratching on the break and making the 8.

we jump right back up to the table again. i win the lag and put a b&r on him the 1st rack. 2 nd rack i break dry and he runs the table. 3rd rack turns into a defensive battle going about 15 innings before he finally won.

after wards when i congratulated him he said he was impressed how my game went up several notches from the 1st time we faced. told him i always been a slow starter.

when he found out i was only a 57 and he is a 79 he was amazed . i told him i am inconsistent as hell.

my napa lo ....who is my co captain on my apa double jeapordy team said he was impressed how well i played. i said yea... i was trying to win that stick. he said you must have wanted it real bad because you shot great. we had a good laugh over that.

i think i am gonna like playing in this division.

Nice shooting!

Since I'm going to Nationals, I'm curious about how SL's in NAPA differ for different areas. How often do you break-and-run? I'm a 69 in 8-ball but only have one b-n-r.

Played an SL4 last night and won 14-6. Karma is a ***** lol.

I broke, CB was hooked, I played a kick safe that failed. He ran out some balls and ended up dogging the 9. Then he breaks the next rack, makes 3, shoots the one, then shoots the 5 and makes 2 other balls. He then proceeds to piss in the 7, but dogs the 9 and blames me.

The dude has probably never run a rack in his life and can barely string 3 balls together, but last night he was getting the rolls on the worst table in the room. He even agreed that the it was a gaff table. The only break and run opportunity I had, I decided to carom off the 1 and lock him up on the rail between the 5/8. It worked, he gave me BIH and I ran out.

My goal for 9ball is no more losses, regardless of the point spread; A win is a win!
I was going for the 6 point break all night! Only 3 point breaks for me, though :embarrassed2:

not very often lol. actually i very seldom try to break and run unless i see a wide open table.if i got a cluster of mine and my opponents balls i let him break it up.

the last match of last session i had 2 oportuniteis for break and runs but got out of position on the 8 in one and rattled the 8 on the other.

i played in last years nationals and got put out in the 8 th round . i just got wore out after 2 grueling back to back matches that lasted over 3 hours each. there were just grind it out defense matches. never had a break and run and none of my opponents did either.

i think i have around 5 break and runs in about 40 matches.

I agree. BnR's in 8-ball are not as common as BnR's in 9/10-ball. In APA 8-ball I don't have a single break and run. I have multiple in APA 9-ball.
With the two sets I played Tuesday, I broke 10 times and only 2 were BnR's.

Setting a handicap or judging a handicap by BnR's in 8-ball isn't accurate.
