Depending on joint type, you could buy a standard united or wavy joint shaft and have a cue maker convert the shaft to whatever pin and thread type you like.
But this isn't ideal. Let's say you have a cue with a joint at .850 instead of .840 and you don't want to reduce the size of the joint. You'd have a shaft that doesn't line up properly.
