Perhaps Lignum Vitae for a non-metallic, non-phenolic material. Lignum vitae is used as bearing material and is quite dense with good lubricity properties.

Sounds like the best solution for you would be to convert cue to G10 3/8-10 pin into wood.

Or you could try delrin as a softer insert.
Would need to be threaded on the OD for retention.
Probably similar to aluminum for durability.

Are you sure about that?

From the original post;

What material would you suggest to make the dowel from and tap threads [5/16x14] into it directly there for bypassing the insert entirely?

Best solution is to get if off his head about this myth that brass insert softens the hit .
It sure did not soften those TS sneakies, did it ?

My brother and my friend.

One of the most important things about any individual, is doing what they believe. If he thinks brass effects the hit in a way he doesn't agree with. No one is going to change his opinion except himself

For the OP and Aluminum option.
Avoiding the steps of doweling then adding an insert.

Everyone has to believe in something.
I believe I'll have another cup of coffee.
Then make more dust.
Heaven help me on that purpleheart cue with uniloc quick release screw. Brass inside phenolic.

Which part do you think i should not be sure about?

When is an insert a dowel and not an insert?

If a dowel is not inserted, will it still be virtuous?

Or just virtual?
I'm virtually sure of nothing but i have my beliefs and they are mine!

It had not occurred to me to think deeply but you have opened lines of ponderance.

I get confused between pondering and ponderous though.

Pondering is good.

Glue won't hold. Maybe thread, then cut "key" slots for glue to fill. Too soft for my taste. Asking for a cross thread.
