i have been experimenting with my break lately. i finally found what works best for me on 7's. 1 diamond off the head rail ....3'' to the right of center diamond ...using half of my full power. works great for both 8 and 9 ball. here are this weeks result for me.

Thanks!

I didn't see this until now or I would have tried it this weekend. I didn't play league but went up to a barbox 10 ball tournament in Syracuse. I had the cueball about 3" to the right of center and just behind the head string. My breaks were OK... had quite a few dry breaks but at least the cue ball stayed on the table.

I didn't do badly in the tournament, even though I lost my first and only match. The tournament format is single elimination, each match is best-of-3 sets. The first two sets are races to 5 and the third is a race to 3. I lost the first two sets 5-4 5-4. Both times that I was on the hill I should have gotten out but just made simple mistakes that lost the game for me. I didn't expect to be as competitive as I was so I went away feeling pretty good.

It's really nice to play on good 7' tables (Diamonds) that don't have funny rolls and a cue ball that weighs the same as all the others.

I thought I blew top gun last weekend getting too toasty and losing bad to a 4 6-14. It looked like I needed to go at least 18-2 this week to maybe still sneak out the W. I ended up beating a 7 65-15 for a 19-1 finish . I only had one break and run but got out a lot with only missing maybe 2 balls I want to say the whole match. We shall see if it was enough in the couple of days.

i was looking at my apa lifetime stats tonight. i have mixed opinions ..wish i had not looked ...but then again i think its gonna give me the incentive to get my head out of my ass ...if it aint too late. just turned 60 a few months ago.

one thing....i hit a mile stone i think.:grin-square: i just passed 700 matches in apa. i doubt if many people have played 700 apa matches in 3 years.i have cut back playing somewhat but my goal is 1,000 matches before i retire from pool. :grin-square: that is not counting napa and money league.

i have a 50 % record lifetime.....individual sessions fluctuate up and down but mostly a slow downward spiral the last 2 years. . i was on a tear as a 4 but hardly ever hit 50% as a 5.... i think its mostly because i play higher levels about 75% of the time now where as i usually played my own level when i 1st started.

the summer of 2012 i hit a plateau of 60 % as a 6 in 8 ball but went back down to a 5 where i have been stuck at since then. most sessions since i was lowered average a 45% .

for some reason last fall was my best win % in 9 balll as a 5 with a 60 % record. the last 2 sessions i am down to the low 40's ?

think i am gonna start hitting balls here at the house with a renewed vigor and see if i can get back to where i was the summer of 2012.

700 matches in 3 years!? That's insane!

I just looked at my NAPA stats. Tomorrow night will make 90 matches in 3 years.

I had an "ok" session going 3-1 in 8 ball and 6-2 in 9 ball. Some of it I blame on a few drinkies during football, but my overall 9 ball game seemed to improve as a whole. I was going to take another break but if I did win top gun (TBD by today or tomorrow most likely) I think I need to stay on a roster to play in that.

Yea, you'll probably have to "continue session play" to stay in Top Gun. They did that to me with our 8-ball team at Regionals. We won the division, won City Cup, and when we went to regionals they said I couldn't play, because I was no longer on an 8-ball roster :frown:

My stats for this year aren't overly impressive. I hardly got to play, because of handicap limits. We are in first place, but some of our guys lost a lot of matches that should have been blowouts. 5-1 isn't bad, but I would have liked to play more than six times in sixteen weeks. I'll probably have to sit out at City Cup this time, I choked the last two times for 9-ball and I have a feeling they are going to cut me from the team due to the handicaps.

Come on 2 pack Dave, you have a nickname to keep :D. I only have to spot you 19 balls? I'm not sure I can fade that especially if you string together a 2 pack on me! I have a really solid gear I can hit, but it's very inconsistent. It makes sense playing only once a week.

The proof is in the pudding! whatever the hell that means... LOL

Those damn 3 packs just keep slipping away

I figured if I kept playing this session, they would eventually bump my handicap up again, but I only get to play once every two-three weeks, because of the handicaps. I could have played last week with another one of our SL6's, but we'd have to had to play 6,6,4,4,3 and one of our SL4's "didn't feel like playing pool" that night

Nice video

You can easily be a 7 or an 8 with the natural stroke you have. My record is a 4 pack in 9 ball. One of my bucket list goals is to break and run a set in a race to 5 in 8 or 9 (probably more likely to happen in 9). That would be sweet (for me at least) imo and not easy to accomplish. I don't see it though unless I start playing more than once a week which is tough to do since I have been playing a ton of PS4 recently (Destiny lol).

I've tried many times to get a 20-0 and run more than a 2-pack , but it just won't happen. I've come close to a 20-0, but had to play a tough safe, I got it, then the guy kicked three rails skimming the object ball and knocking another in

I'm juiced, I got this tonight. I'm probably an average C player and lost my first two games 10-4 due to stupid mistakes. Third game my opponent breaks dry and I run out for a 10-0, next game I break and run for another 10-0. I'm on a high right now and hope I carry it over into the tournament this weekend. Before tonight I've only had 1 ero this season and only 2 10-0's.

Thanks JCIN for the I3

Nice shooting!

I had a 5-3 race in NAPA 10-ball. I won 5-1.

Nothing terribly exciting to say about it except that I finally had my break working all right (took some power off and focused on staying down and having a good follow-through) and was able to control the heavy cue ball better.

Thanks, I was on a high last night and still kind of am lol. I have been really down on myself this year as I'm barely winning over 50% of my games. We did move into some tougher leagues but I've just been making dump mistakes and very poor safeties. Add that to trying to get use to a LD shaft and I was feeling like a dunce. Last night definitely helped my confidence.

Just noticed something on my APA member stats. I have no break and runs listed, yet have video of a 2-pack and have broke and ran plenty racks this session. Why should we even mark them down, if they don't track them?

In our league every break and run, 8 ball break, or 9 ball break puts us in a drawing for a trip to Vegas if we throw in $1 in the pot. Cheap shot at it. You have to put a dollar in though to be in the drawing for each time you do one of those.

I haven't posted much in this thread lately, due to a few factors. Retail management at Christmas kicks my azz, I haven't played particularly often or very well, and I lost my 7 (and really close buddy) from both of the teams I play on, and it bums me out too much.

Its a long story, it involves another league and our LOs reaction to it, and it just sucks. I'll describe it all another time.

I lost last Tuesday, to an SL4. He's a good player, no real shame in my losing to him. I just feel crappy about the whole thing.

9-ball tonight, maybe I'll get back into it like I should be.

sounds like you are working your azz off a lot while i am home sittin on my azz alot. . my work always slows down this time of year. :(

it sounds like your league has a lil drama going on dub...hope it all works out.

just remember this dub ....you can please all the people some time... you can please some of the people all the time...but you will never please all the people all the time.

that saying there has helped me get through drama more than once lol.

i played napa last night...i won the lag and wanted to play 8 ball....my captain wanted me to play 9 ball.

9 ball was 3-3
8 ball was 5-3 with me going to 5.

i reluctantly agreed to 9 ball and lost 3-2. i will admit that part of the reason i lost was because i was just not into it due to rather wanting to play 8 ball instead.

i do understand my captains view point of playing even vs me spotting him. how ever my opinion is ..there is a reason i have to spot him in 8 ball...i am much better than my opponent at 8 than 9.

to me playing 9 ball even was a toss up and with me not being overly enthused about playing 9 lessened my chances of winning even more.

am i wrong for feeling i have a better chance of winning while playing my strongest game even though i am spotting him 2 racks....or is playing him even at my weakest game better odds ?

what do you guys think ?

So last Sunday we had a double-header for our 9b playoffs. We won the first round handily, but lost in the 5th match(needed a 19-1 "or better"). Stuck at a bar from 10am until 6pm, a week and a half before Christmas, is not my idea of a good time.

Next season, I'm being added to a team that's qualified for 8b regionals. May just end up on that one team.. getting a bit burned out on feeling that I have to show up so many places each week.

Having a small tournament for our BCA league tonight. Not sure how many people are going to show up, but I'll throw some money in it and let people have their fun. Kinda just want to set it up, give them the money and then go home and do whatever I want.. like packing for a trip.

BCA inter-divisionals begins, I think, on the 15th, so there's a little rest time before then. After that season ends and the regional passes, I plan on trying out my own tournament style and see how that goes. With everything that's going on, I'm looking forward to being done with league this summer. I need a break to relax and spend time on other things.

I think your best odds are the game you're better at, especially if you're better at it than the other guy.

I can see your Capt's point-of-view too. Compared to playing even, spotting someone a couple games seems like you're getting the worst of it -- at least on the surface.

Last night, one of my guys had the choice of either playing even (or maybe spotting the other guy one game) or spotting the guy 2 games in a 4-2 race. I let him play what he wanted, kind of thinking as you do, that he'll do better in the game he's more comfortable in. He lost the first game, then won the next 4.
