In the early-mid 90's ,
Cory Dueul brought a young man to Hawaii.
At that time, I owned a Pro Shop inside of "The Campus Cue", A pool room by the University of Hawaii.
Cory and the the young gentleman came to play the Campus Cue owner, "Del".

I have never seen a player, play, like the young gentleman.
Every time there was "No shot", he would play safe.
By 1 a.m. every body, who was somebody, was at Campus cue watching the Match.
The Match ended at 3 a.m.
The young gentleman, was quiet and well mannered.
Today, he is one of the greatest to play the game.
and, that gentleman is Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan

THE KID
(To the tune of " Night Before Christmas")

" When I first saw him, He came strolling in,
this Kid with a Cue stick, and, a Punk-confident grin.
He went straight to the back, smelling money in the air,
anxious for action, he wanted his share.

When the kid reached the back, he sat in the chair,
across Hawaiian Brian, and started to stare..

Hawaiian Brian, Aki, and all Hawaii's best,
was all matching-up, to ensure their success.

" Hawaiian Brian" , he called, with confidence he brought.
" Lets play some 9 Ball, and, I don't need no spot ! "

The crowd became silent, as Brian stared back..
" I don't know this Kid, but, he sure needs a slap.. "

" I'll play you a race, a short race to 9, but, You got to bet something,
or don't waste my time."

" I'll play you old man, I got nothing to lose.
I got only a thousand, and, a very short fuse."

The match was all set.. Brian was mad!!
"This kid better watch it..... I'm getting my TAD."

The crowd started gathering, to see this unknown.
play Hawaii's All Time Best, right here in his home.

The cloth was Simonis, the balls, Aaramith-Pros,
Gold Crown tables by Brunswick, it's the best way to go..

Winning the lag, Brian's big break,
dropped three colored balls, hanging the 9 and the 8.

An easy combo, gave Brian the win.
In a short race to 9, what a way to begin.

In no time at all, it was Brian up 8,
He said " call my wife, I wouldn't be home late"

On Brian's last break, nothing went in,
the kid jumped up shouting " It's my first chance to win!!"

The kid ran that rack, and then, seven more.
"Who is this Kid, that walked thru my door"..

The kid was stroking, and shooting so fast,
Brian knew he'd get careless, or, run out of gas.

A short race to 9, came down to just one.
Only one game, to decide who has won..

The Kid broke it hard, the eight ball went in.
With the 7 ball hanging, it looked like a win..

By now, he was stroking so fast and so clean,
this kid was so good, he just had to be seen.

He banked in the 5, to stay straight on the 6,
With the 7 ball hanging, this game was all "Fixed".
Not wasting a beat, so fast and in line.
He drilled in the 7....
Then dogged the 9............
