Joss Cue 20-204

Anybody ever shoot with this cue? How did you like it? What about its aesthetics, did it turn out just like you hoped for?

Thinking about buying one and playing a little more since there's not much to do nowadays.

Never played with that model.
I have two Joss cues.
One production and one hand made custom by Dan Janes.
All Joss cues play great.

The play of the cue would not be much different from one model to another all things being equal. It's biggest as with all production cues is availability. You don't have to wait three years to get the darn cue. I am also a big proponent of used cues. You can hit balls with it, it will cost less and you who't live and die with the first scratch.

It is a beauty too..... I love the butts of Joss cues, lots of tasteful designs!

I think it is ugly, but I'm sure it will play just fine. Joss cues all tend to play pretty well, can't say I've ever had a bad one.

In my experience (and I have had many Joss cues over the years), none of them hit similar to each other.

Schon cues are much more reliable, when it comes to the way they all hit, because I feel that they all hit very much alike. Schon are very solid hitting cues, and much better then Joss, in my opinion.

Or, get a Mezz. They are very high quality. Here one a really nice one that does not cost much more then that Joss.

Sorry, I just do not care for Joss cues.

The only ones I really liked the hit of were the only ones, with the non Stainless Steel joints. The ones that did not have an SS joint on them. Those hit really nice.

But if you like SS joint cues, then I think Schon is a much better option.

Schon cues hold their value much better then Joss too, and much easier to sell a Schon then a Joss, on the used market, in my experience.

Here is a nice Schon that is not much more expensive then the Joss you linked, but there are cheaper options too.

I should not judge Joss cues, because I have never played with any of their newer cues.

I did have a few of their Derby cues, that Buddy Hall had Joss make him a line of.

I recall having 3 of those models, and they all hit very similar, and they hit super nice.

So, I think it is just the SS joint collar Joss cues that I never cared for.

The description of the wood is "ebony black". That might slide right by you.

What kind of wood can be dyed pitch black like that if it's not ebony? Or is it possibly not wood?

Pechauer uses the wording "Sim Ebony" for many of cues cues, with points and inlays that appear to be Ebony, and told me that real Ebony has gotten much more expensive over the years, so is only seen in cues that cost over a $1,000. Not sure if that is true, but it is something he once told me, in recent years. He does use real Ebony in his cues, but only in his much higher end cues. Here is just 1 example.

Yes, real ebony is really up there in cost. I wonder what "sim ebony" is?

I already have two Schon cues. Including this one, the STL-8.

I am sort of looking for a cue with rectangles or windows in the butt sleeve. See my other thread.
