The taped ferrule looks like it has some damage, but the “after” picture doesn’t. With the angled ferrule and tip you may have over sanded it.

That is possible. I cleaned the ferrule with alcohol and magic eraser but there were blue streaks still there. I experimented on whether the blue marks could be removed with sanding. I removed them and a couple scratches remained. It seems alright.
