I'm not TOO great at 1-pocket strategy but I know the basics of keeping the CB between the pocket and any OB, keeping the rack between the CB and opponent's pocket when possible, using pocketing speed, etc.

.....One downside to Alex's shot choice in this situation (other than mis-execution), is very possibly leaving your opponent a good angle at banking the 7 ball straight back......That said, I think the best shot choice here, and I think it's the shot option that I would pick if I was in this spot, would be to softly hit the right side of the 13 ball, (about 1/3rd of a ball hit).....The objective being to have the cue ball and the 13 ball after hitting the rail, end up about 1 inch off of the rail, and end up parallel to each other/or the cue ball slightly closer to the rail......This would leave the 13 un-bankable straight back - the 13 blocks the straight back bank on the 7 - and the stack hides/protects your 2 ball......................And, when playing one pocket, here's some words of wisdom from the Ghost .....It's ok to sell one chicken or one pig or one rooster - but don't sell the farm !

While I'm with you on Efren and the way your run your life, you perchant for death for those that may do something wrong is troubling. Not everyone that commits a crime deserves to die for it. Death penalty for drunk driving? Most all of us that are older have at one time or another done so, usually when we were younger, not that its right, its just the truth. Most small thefts in your neighborhood are done by your neighbors children, teens and preteens. Could you live with killing your neighbors 15 year old, that you knew since he was born, because he was sneaking into your car at night to steal a CD. Happened here last month. I believe if you think about it, you will realize that even though it really pisses you off, its not worth a life.

so that would mean sending the 11 to the side rail near the point! that 8 does cause a lot of headache.
I think that would be tough to leave the CB where Efren wouldn't have a shot on the 11 which if I'm reading your post right would probably leave the 11 in a worse spot than the eight...I would keep working the 8 with kicks from the side rail until I could punt it out...Deadon said:Although I think Alex's shot was the best one if you can execute it, your suggestion is excellent. Like I said, if I was playing aggressive, I liked Alex's shot best, but for discussion I suggested the previous post. Look at the video and not the diagrams, they are a little off. The 11 hits the side rail and then hits the top of the 8. The 11 caroms toward the rack and the goes to the end rail and up toward the other side of the table. You don't hit the 8 full with the 11 so its not in the pocket, its hit across the top, like a crossover bank and both balls head toward the other side of the table. The CB is below them and out of the way.
I shot this shot earlier, and it came out perfect, first time. Its not that tough. 11 to the side and across the top of the 8. Follow on the CB to the end rail. Again, look at the video and not the cuetable diagrams. Just trying to think of another creative shot, aside from the better shots already discussed.
