this was taken from the DCC Alex vs Efren match. how would you play the layout shown at 0-1 sec of the video clip?

for me, I could have thinly cut the 2 ball, screwing it towards my pocket and and hitting the 11 ball at the same time banking it towards my pocket area for an easy position and maneuvering on the 5,12,10 ball and a possibility of breaking the stack on the process. at the 30 sec section of the clip shows a better angle of the probability of the shot I was talking about. what are your other thoughts or do you have the same plan as I have in mind?

Can you post a cuetable layout of the setup? I'm afraid I can't support watching it on Youtube, since posting the clip on there without Pat Fleming's permission is in effect stealing..

What is 0-1 sec. ???
Alex F'ed up in that game by trying to put the ball behind the 8 again...often I've been able to park the CB in the jaws of my opponents pocket but here he could have just stuck it to the rail just out from Efren's pocket...

0 sec <--- the beginning of the clip where it shows how would you play it in that angle! I also don't know what Alex was thinking when he made that shot. your idea of stickin it to the rail was enough. probably Efren would have played the 11 and put the CB back behind the 5 or played the long bank on the 3 uptable in that particular situation that you've mentioned.

Please don't take offense (pardon the pun) at this humorous reply, but from your choice of shots here, I can see why your chosen screen name is 'Hail Mary Shot'....I wouldn't shoot your shot choice even if Donald Trump was staking me.....And I wish my pool hall was filled with guys who chose shots like this !............Seriously though, as long as the players cue ball control is good enough, I think Alex's shot is the best shot.............Ghost

Alex made a helluva shot dropping the cue ball behind the eight. Of course, Efren countered equally as well.

LOL ! Yeah I know it's kinda illogical but as I say if I was in Alex's position and was losing all the balls positions playing defensively, I would rather play it aggressive in that situation. Alex was being beaten to the punch in a defensive battle.. he was more concerned about Efren's balls rather than taking the initiative to attack. it maybe far-fetched and look like silly but at least you took a chance. don't worry, I did the math and tried it myself. the 2 ball is makeable and does go in and also manage to bank the 11 towards my pocket area. it maybe a low percentage shot but who's counting on creativity? Maybe the Donald does ! So give me some of that money, money, money , money.......MONEY ! :D

Seriously, Efren also does some ill advised shots as well, so it won't hurt if some of us try it also. who knows, we might become more successful in it. ;)

Pat is a very intelligent person with a great vision for the future of billiard broadcasting. I am sure he and his team will figure a way to keep everyone happy.

Meanwhile... here is the layout:

Your post just made me go  and do a little Efren head scratch.

It sounds like you're saying the following: Watching the YouTube clip is not OK, but asking someone else to watch it and then transfer the information that you desire from the clip to you in another format is OK.

If robbing a bank is wrong, is it not also wrong to ask someone who is a bank robber to give you some money? ... Not a $100 bill that was stolen, but maybe some $20's he got as change from spending one of those $100 bills?

Look at it this way... we know from your posts that you buy tons of Accu-Stats from Pat, and the YouTube clip is only about 6 minutes, probably less than a 5% "preview" of the match. If you like that, you might decide to buy the DVD.

What I'm trying to say is, just watch the stinkin' clip already!! LOL. Ya know ya wanna. :D

I am being completely honest here, not combatitive. It's been a long time since I heard any Accu-Stats commentator say that Efren took an ill advised shot in One Pocket. He once in a while will not execute a shot very well, but Efren is simply the smartest One Pocket player in the world right now, and he often comes up with a much better shot than the commentators suggest.

Alex's shot was an excellent shot. If he could have just hit it a touch softer to nestle in on the rail leaving the cue ball lower on the 8 it would have been jail.

Efren is the most talented and best one pocket player in the world but I highly doubt that he is the smartest. I have watched him get tied up in knots and have the cash taken from him by being outsmarted. Grady for one is probably a lot more knowledgeable, as well as Ronny Allen but because Efren shoots so much better he has a huge advantage over everyone even those with more one-pocket knowledge.

Hey Cue, This response of yours was a thing of beauty..........Without mentioning any names, let me just say that there are some very self righteous people who badly need to be reminded of the quotation...." Let ye who is without sin, cast the first stone "

I have purchased the video in question. He asked a question, I asked him to repost the question in a socially responsible manner. He'd already seen the video. I can't make him "unsee" it.

I don't pirate. I don't steal, period. I don't cheat people at pool. Ever. I don't drink and drive, and would see the death penalty as an acceptable punishment for doing so. Same for dealing drugs. I believe if the world was right, I'd be able to shoot and kill a person on my property who is attempting to steal from me, whether they are armed or not. We'd have less crime if more people had guns.

Here's me casting stones...

I believe he also could've taken the 8 out with the 5 ball, and left the CB safe.

RUSS,

Take note that the pocket where the 8 ball lies near is Efren's pocket and Alex's pocket is on the upper left corner of the diagram. It's Alex's turn to shoot in that particular scenario.

Exactly, not all the shots that most people suggest or think is the best shot.
the most important thing there is the successful execution of the shot. It's like the notion "EVERYTHING BUT THE SHOT" ! ;)
having your own ideas and creative thinking is an asset in 1 pocket. I had watched the match between Corey and Efren, and I saw Corey did some shots that most of us wouldn't have obviously suggest or would be possible to perfectly execute. So in a way, that kinda motivated me to create my own way. call it radical, but it is possible. ;)

Sadly to say, Mary Magdalene was casted with a stone. Guess who the culprit was? :D
