1 Rack Video

Nice video, thanks for posting. I appreciate the explanation of what english to use on the opening breakshot and why. Only other thing I would have enjoyed seeing would be the following rack break shot just as a nice wrap up to the end pattern.

Mike during the opening segment you describe hitting that particular breakshot with High Right hand English which is the correct English for the shot.
But you should of explained just like many other instructors teach that if the Object ball is past the middle ball in the back row of balls.

If the Object ball is on the other side of the center ball then you should use High Left hand English to go 3 rails behind the rack.

with right hand English from that position the CB would be going at too much of a downward angle and would end up getting stuck below the rack.

I agree with this. I call this "cutting the legs off of the rack." Meaning, if the carom angle of the cue ball into the rack, takes it into the "legs" or outer triangled balls ("wing balls," if you will) of the rack, the best bet is to CRASH THROUGH those legs towards the middle of the table.

If, on the other hand, the carom angle causes it to hit more "center mass" of that row of balls, it's better to spin off that row and go 3 rails out to the middle of the table.

Also, the carom angle *into* that back row of balls determines a lot, as well. I can do no better than Pat Fleming in explaining this, so I won't even try -- I'll let the kind doctor explain in his own words (link cheat applied, to take you right to the "behind the rack breakshot" segment):

Correct

Thanks Stevie & Sean for pointing that out with break shots from behind the rack. Don't know why that other positions were not on my mind at the time. All I had on my mind was the basic break shot from behind the rack. Yes, depending where that object ball is located & where the cue ball is located. That can be a video within it's self. I have another video of a behind the rack break shot that I put High Left English on. I will post that next week.

What I was really thinking about was the question that was asked here on the Forum about when to pick out a break ball during the rack. Here is the Link to that Thread and my answer is #2 on the list of comments. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=292307

That s the way 14.1 should be played- you clearly shown up, that it is necessary to *use your knowledge* and to overthink over and over again. 14.1 is a game of precision...and if you re out of line...you have to fight back.
I really enjoyed this single rack- and at the end you played really nice and precise positions!

When I click on the video link in post #1, the initial table position is shown fairly clearly, with the right-facing triangle for "play." But when I click on "play" and the video starts, the video is completely wishy-washy blurred while the audio is normal.

Any ideas what's wrong? I don't recall having this on any other video I've tried to watch.

Just watched about 2 mins of it and it seems to be playing correctly. Sorry that is happening to you.

Maybe a Flash Update will help that. It plays fine for me !!!
