#1 ranked 3C player, Frederic Caudron???

Currently world #1, so who has seen this cat play?

At one point there was some banter around here indicating that since Efren's best carom game was balkline, he might actually beat Caudron.

Very little chance in in the long run unless he gives up pool for a long while, which he has done in the past.

The games skills simply don't transfer 100%.

Caudron is a "MASTER" of all the carom games.
Efren is "MASTER" of the pockets.

Caudron is the best in the world at straight rail and balkline and has become of the top 3-C players. I don't give Efren much of a chance in anything but a short race in any of these games.

Of course, Caudron would have absolutely no shot at beating Efren in any pool games.

i had seen him play in Fethiye, Turkey, in the european championships, he is right up there with sayginer, lee, sanchez, blomdahl, jaspers. caudron knows his angles on that 10footer. imo efren could have a chance against him in 3c but caudron couldnt win a game from efren in any pocket billiard discipline.

I've seen Efren play and I've seen Frederic Caudron play (I'm actually Frederic's sponsor). Both are exceptionnal player. But as far as carom goes Efren doesn't stand a single chance. The Belgium championship just ended and Frederic just accomplished what they call the "grand chelem". He won the 3 cushion (at 1.630 general average), the single rail (at 27 general average), the 47/1 (47 general average), the 47/2 (109 general average), the 71/2 (111 general average) and the free game or no rail (400 general average, which means he actually didn't miss one shot in the whole tournament because it is race to 400). Everyone in Europe agrees to say he is the most complete carom player alive (and probably in the history of carom) in the sense that he's the only player able to perform like this for all games. They don't call him the extra-terrestrial for nothing.

Efren has no chance. As Thierry Layani points out Caudron just competed in the Belgian national championships and he won all six disciplines without a loss. At 1-cushion he averaged 27.27 billiards per inning and the second best average was 10.72. At 18.1 balkline he averaged 47.05 and the second best average was 29.63. At 28.2 balkline he averaged 111.11 and the second best average was 38.47. At straight rail he never missed a shot running 400 and out in his first inning every game.

That's dominance. At 3-cushion there several players who are his equal, but in the smaller games he's far and away the best in the world.

I've seen Caudron play billiards numerous times and have also seen Efren play billiards. A matchup between the two, in any discipline on a 5 x 10 billiard table, would be a massacre.

Back when Efren first came to the states when he was young and hungry, he played in the U. S. 3 cushion championships.

According to an article written in Billiard Digest in the mid 80's, Efren pulled Raymond Ceulemans early in the tournament. The format was one race to 50 points back then.

Efren was leading Ceulemans 48-37 when Raymond put a 13 on him to win the match.

After the match, in an interview with Ceulemans, he said if Efren were to only concentrate on 3 cushion, he would be the best that ever lived.

Pretty nice compliment coming from, at that time, a player who was considered the best that ever lived.

Who's the best?

They both are at their seperate disciplines, but Efren is the hands down winner if you consider overall all pool and billiard related games.

The man simply plays world class no matter what the game.
