repost from the main page as this is probably the right place to post it and find people who are interested in doing the same project..

ok, I dont got much time, but just wanted to post a picture on how the blinds look after sanding, staining (yes with shoe-dye  and 2 coats of PU waterbased finish.

everybody told me i was nuts. the pro shop with finishmaterial said NOTHING would stick on shoedye, and that i was a moron trying to make wood look black that way... and look now how perfect is leather shoedye!! i put 6 coats on ALL the blinds and the feet and if used 1.5 small botles of shoedye (i bought 10 thinking i could always buy more later...)

it looks A-MA-ZI-NG, but i would say that too, even if it looked ugly, just because i did the work .

anyway, this was a 8 year old UGLY brown (not sure of the colour) oak table, that now looks like real ebony look, JET-BLACK!!, but still u can see every vain of the wood true it. ill post the full full story with pictures from A to Z later, when its 100% done (need 2 weeks to let the table setle in the room), but i couldnt resist to already post a picture.

(AFTER and BEFORE) Edited in ORIGINAL STAIN and AFTER SHOE DYE AND FINISH :D

I may be wrong but aren't before and after pictures supposed to be taken of the same object?

i searched that picture for 15 min. looking for that apron, i didnt want to say anything i thought it might be a test from glen!!!

hehe :)

well it aint about what piece it is, its about the colour/aspect of the wood change. thought that was obvious. my mistake.

its about how the stain is different, how u can still see all the woodgrain, the perfect shinyness (my 2c.), the wood looks 10 times better.

no paint, no varnish stain, no wood colouring product will make oak look this black and with this texture richness.

ah well :)

its probably because this is my lifedream, its more then "just" a table. it has a story behind it, that makes it special :D

anyway, i like it alot, and at the end ill have a Ebony into maple look diamond table that is a looker for under 2k. THATS cool :)

in short: that was the only picture i had that had the original stain :o and that part hasnt been photografed stained....:D

Diamond in the Rough

I'm looking forward to seeing it all done. I've followed your various Diamond table threads and have liked what I saw. I think you will have a nice looking one of a kind Diamond when it's all said and done.

:p *happy smiley*

thx for the nice words

The before pic looks like stained plywood. There's an obvious difference in the before and after which would have more impact if it was the same type piece of the table. The black piece (after) looks very good. The key is that You like it.

my decalls arived today from diamond. payed 16$ or so i think.

it looks gooooood :) the white really stands out.

i didnt place on of them correctly (i rushed in :o NEVER rush arf what was i thinking) and when removing the decall some finish came of, i'll have to redo that.
