10 yr old Brunswick Madison - decent or loose goose?

Found a 10 yr old Brunwick Madison.
Is this a decent table?
I see the leg / frame connection point is with a metal bracket. Should I be concerned about too much flex at the legs from the metal brackets?
Thoughts on this one? 'Asking' $900.

We like the look of the table but the look of the metal brackets don't look good? Am I off base?
If it is a concern, suggestions of beefing up the leg / frame connection?

CZSteve,

I'm not a pool table mechanic, but I am an experienced residential cabinet builder. I bought a used Madison as my first table, and after some reworking and tuning up, I am happy with it.

Madisons have good points and bad points. I'll show you how to fix some of the bad ones.

Good points....no particle board or MDF. The entire table, even the slate liner, is hardwood. The slate is one inch. Even though the legs have a bit of furniture-type curve to them, most of the mass of the leg is directly in line with the load of the table and the floor below. The price is probably in your budget. Lastly, you like the way it looks.

In my opinion, the number one bad point is some of the important attachment blocks are stapled to the cabinet instead of being glued and screwed. Not a big problem, though, if you have a few tools.

Pry off all blocks that are stapled. Use a Dremel tool to cut the staples flush. Clean off any roughness, then glue, clamp, and screw the blocks back in place. Check for any joints in the cabinetry that are not good and tight. Clamp and screw any loose ones.

Add some screws to the metal brackets if you want to.

If you have the money, get references off this site for a good mechanic and pay him to set it up and install the cloth. If you have to do it yourself, then there are very suitable instructions on this site to guide you.

Pricewise.....I paid $600.00 for my table, plus $120.00 for new Granito cloth. I follow pool tables on the Dallas Craigslist every day, and have seen used Madisons from $800.00 to $1,700.00.

A Madison isn't a Gold Crown or Diamond Pro, but it is a playable table that looks pretty good in your house.

I tried to attach photos. Hopefully, they will show.

Good luck to you.

Joe
