Giving myself 10weeks to make 100balls. or im quiting pool
my plan so far is to read tru phil capells "play your best straightpool", twice.
work with equall offence. 4-5times a week, and match twice a week.

got any tips?

My tip is don't think about running 100, just play and let the runs come. Best of luck!

Yeah, go ahead and quit now if running a hundred in 10 weeks is your goal. I'm not trying to talk myself up but I'm in the SA class here in Japan, that's between A and pro. I've been playing straight pool exclusively for at least 2 years now and my high run is still in the early 60's. Making a goal is good but quitting if you don't reach it is just silly......and I doubt you'll reach it, but I honestly wish you luck with it.

100 balls in 10 weeks is a Fantasy

Good luck. I have been playing the game for years and am no where near running a 100 balls. Its the best game out there, don't quit after 10 weeks.

just saw your sig, and with a high run of 82 at the age of 20 to consider quitting if you dont reach 100, means your probably playing for the wrong reasons anyway. even if you do get it, will you quit if you dont reach your next goal? Play because you love the game, as for most theres no money or fame in it. nothing wrong with pushing yourself but to quit if you dont reach your goal rather than trying harder to reach it next time is the wrong way to go about playing pool. 100 is just a number.

Here is the problem with this ultimatum. Your going into this with a negative attitude. It's kind of like when your playing poorly in practice and you say to yourself "I better run this rack out, if I don't I suck!" Chances are you'll sabotage yourself at some point.

What will you do if you run 97 or 98? Does it have to be 100? I hope you realize that it is an arbitrary number with which we have placed a certain amount of importance on.

P.S. I agree with burns240.

I think its good to set goals in general, maybe just the quiting part is a bit silly. As I kid I used to not let myself go home until I'd made certain breaks at Snooker, I recall some late angry evenings lol!

I thnik ten weeks is a decent time if you've already done 80+, just don't quite if you dont do it!

First time I broke 100 at Snooker and straight pool was when somebody else was counting and I didn't know the score, first time I rode a bike by myself was when I didn't realise my dad had let go of the seat...best tip ever, video it and dont count! :)

thx for the tips:)

i've been playing for around 3 years. -1.5 beacuse of injure(wrist problem).

for example :
a school asignment. if the teacher dosent give you a timelimit with consequences..the students will never do it. almost the same in straightpool i think.
you will play for fun now and then. sure maby you get 100 one day.. but it will take ages..unless you are really devoted.

I need a plan to make me progress faster.
some maby say it takes the fun out of the game.
but if you wanna get really good, you have to work hard for it.
just hope i can do it.

i dont think i ever will be able to quit pool.100 or not. im big time hoocked.. greatest games ever.
just trying to make it more serious for myself and get my game up!

i want that 100 soo bad:P

im also thinking of orderng Harimans dvd..
sry for my english

Danny's DVD will certainly help as he talks you through his thought process each rack. With your ability, 100 should be accomplished within that timeframe. Good luck.

1. Quit playing in those c-tournaments you enter. It's too easy for you, and you will lose your focus.

2. Pay for a lesson with Vegar Kristiansen, who's living in your area. Ask him for example if he will tell you the shots you are gonna do, and why.

3. Video it. Don't count, other than move a coin around the table for every rack you succeed.

Good luck. I believe you can succeed.

But if you don't video it, it doesn't count ;)

I understand your frustration. Keep in mind that cerntain tables are easier to run 100 on vs. others. Running 82 is very good at your age. My high run at 20 was probably 10 LOL.

Like another poster said, high runs are usually accomplished when you are not thinking about them. More often than not, there is a certain amount of luck to break the barrier. I would enjoy the journey rather that anticipate the destination. Ironically, you might break 100, and then have a hell of a time running 30. You should concentrate on playing "perfect" straight pool and the runs will come.

If and when you do break 100, it becomes less important how many from then on.

lol, I'm ashamed to say I had one of those tonight myself.

Watch Jim Rempe's "How to run a 100". Very good stuff. Roy is also on to something, Vegar has always been a very good straight pool player, perfect patterns and nothing fancy or showoff. I hope he's nearly as good as an instructor :)

Get to 100...........

Count using prime numbers!

The Jim Rempe videos are good. It is a 2 part set. "How to run a rack in Straight Pool" and "How to run 100 balls in straight pool". The 2nd one is really just him running 100 balls with commentary during (after the fact) meaning that it was pre-recorded and he is in a sound stage watching it. It's educational somewhat. If you use it correctly, like pause after every shot and analyze the balls and map out what you would do and see what he does. The only problem is that when you are wrong you have to pause and re think what you would do from the new point. It took me like 3 hours to watch that segment.

The first DVD is better for teaching to run balls.
- Deals with "key ball" issues and shot selection.
- Break shots, based on what the position is everywhere around the rack how to hit it and using what English he moved the cue ball back and forth and states based exact location how to hit the break.
- Pattern recognition. How to take rail shots, what balls to deal with first based on location. Clearing pockets.

It is much more interactive and informative. The running 100 balls is more like watching an Accu-Stat video with Jim commenting on himself.

EDIT: I went back and started watching the first DVD again. I now remember why it was so good. He breaks and then literally works out his shot selection. When he shoots a shot he says I'm hoping to clip the 11 using follow but if it does not go I will still have the 12. He tells you what his "key balls" and safety shots are if he gets in trouble running the rack. It is always much better to hear their thinking process and "if then" statements then it is to hear commentary on themselves possibly months later.

EDIT: hahaha - I went back and watched a few bits of it again it "IS" an Accu-Stats video. lol - They produced the video.

i ran 102 at 19 and then it took me 12 years to break the record with a 141 like 2 month ago. since then i ran 78 and 63. the 100 will come, just wait and keep hittin them straight !

thx again for tips:)

im playing on bad old cloth with dirty balls. so its not ideal:P
it can be real hard to break the balls.
no tightpockets tho..

im gonna watch that jim rempe tape.thx.
i havent seen to many matches of rempe.
i've seen efren vs rempe.
Efren makes a 124break. rempe says on around 100. if he gets 1 shot, hes gonna win the game..attidude:D efren gets back and win tho but good game.

im gonna play allot of equal offence.break the balls and try get to 30 points. 10 innings gives you 300 points.. you pass test on 250points.
it helpt me go from 30-40 to 60-80 2 years ago.
now im struggling to get back to 60-80. and i think this is a good way.
just to get the pattern more automatic..
1 thing is to see the patterns on the cueTable. another thing is to do it while you play.

thx roy! i'll ask Vegard. aslo gonna ty get more lessons from Didrik V. he plays great.

watched The Hustler again yesterday. now im ready!:D
have to go practice!
