128 person bar table tournament $$$

correct math

With a standard double-elimination format, the total number of matches for a tournament with N players is 2N-2.

If the final match is true double elimination and it goes to a second set, and you want to count that second set as another match, then the total is 2N-1.

So, the total number of matches would be as follows (add one to each if the finals goes two sets):

4 players = 6 matches
8 players = 14 matches
16 players = 30 matches
32 players = 62 matches
64 players = 126 matches
128 players = 254 matches
256 players = 510 matches

Same formula I was taught for double elimination:thumbup:

interesting

Although your numbers were off, you are on to something. I used to do a similar thing with table time (Loser paid and winner moved on, there were no entry fees) I did this for years and had waiting lists for the tournament every week, not to mention they were my best days dollar wise. I turned what were dead Sundays into my best days.

That is an interesting concept.

Green Fees

Joey,

Are you looking at this as a way to justify green fees, eliminating the need to put in quarters for each game. I am in for that. Practice time for tournaments that have you insert quarters for each game kills you. I cringe when I play in a tournament and need quarters.

There is a formula involved with it and we ran what are called side pots as well that you could enter or not with the highest finisher collecting. Many weeks the high winner for the week won a thousand or more if we had some good players Also, one of the side pots the top players were barred from entering and other pots were open. There would be action all day from the time we opened and the tournament started at 7PM.

I had a license that let me serve till 6am. Spectators would be staking out their seats. I put out a free buffet and it was a happening thing. We made so much money it was a joke and for the players it was all free except for their one loss that cost them about $7.00. The winner never paid anything unless they were in side pots that were separate.

I'm always collecting useless information about many things as they relate to pool.:D

I think that more information needs to be known about all tournaments, especially bar table tournaments as they seem to be more popular than ever.

I also believe that tournament promoters should be upfront about all fees, costs of practicing before the event, PAYOUTS, number of places paid, number of Calcuttas and how many people are part of the Calcutta, etc.

It sucks when you get to a tournament only to find out that you are there three hours early and now you have to pay $1 per game to practice.

It's no biggee, I just like to know more about what it costs to put on an event and perhaps in the future, I will be able to share that information with my local pool room owner.

You may be right but all of us who participate or create these events should know all of the things that happen and why they happen.

The drawing of the players should be in front of the public, not behind closed doors.
