13 Different Cues and Extra Shafts

I have more pictures of each cue available upon request. From Left to Right…

1. Schmelke Bocote 60” even split
3/8x10 joint
15.4 ounce butt
4.4 ounce shaft
19.8 total
13.02mm tip
an unthreaded hole was drilled under the bumper to lighten the cue. Not currently set up to accept a weight bolt. Some small lifting, marks on the collars from cue repairman working on it but otherwise, almost new condition. Rolls very straight

3. Brown Lucasi sneaky Pete Butt Only
Some finish is lifting in the bottom of the butt cap

13.5 without weight bolt currently installed 14.5 with bolt installed. Very slight lift in butt, tip does not lift when rolled with shaft. Nice birdseye

14.6 ounces with bolt. There is no bumper in the picture but it will come with a bumper.

8. Butt is sold
4.2 ounce shaft. This shaft hits more solid than other z3 shafts that I have tried and I believe that it is largely due to the heavy weight which is heavier than the vast majority of z3 shafts. It is straight in and in great shape. Stock except tip was changed to a kamui clear soft.

11. Evan Clark era Schon Stl-1 with amazing birdseye. Kangaroo wrap is super smooth and gives an almost rubber-like grip.

15.0 ounce butt. There is a small weight bolt under the aluminum one that holds the bumper on so it can get .5 ounces or so lighter.

16. Predator Vantage 30”. This shaft is double-tapped and fits on 5/16x14 and 5/16x18 pins. Predator no longer makes a 30” version of the vantage. Excellent condition. Little play.

9. 1990s McDermott butt. New bumper was installed. Cue has not been used a lot. I believe it to be cocobolo that has darkened with age but am not positive. I know it is 30 years old or so.

12. Predator LE-3 Butt Only. Radial pin. This cue has real ebony, not the black painted maple that predator uses now. It gives it a great forward balance imo with the heavy ebony in front. This is the prettiest cue that predator has ever made in my opinion. It also has a very thin handle…1.217 inches at the bottom of the cue.
14.8 ounces with no weight bolt. I have a predator weight cartridge set that I can add if you’re interested. Rolls straight.

13. SOLD Schon SR1. The Palmer Catalog states this cue was made in 1990, which would be before Bob Runde left in 92/93, making this a desirable older Schon. The Schon shafts have a darker ferrule material but not the orange-like micarta. I have some pictures comparing the shade to ivorine. The shafts say “Schon” on the black collar but but “Schon 13” as they did in 1993, so I believe these shafts are original to the cue. Overall very good condition. A few dings but nothing bad. The bumper does have a dark tint to it from something. I imagine that it could be cleaned up but didn’t want to mess with it. I have two shafts with it but would like to keep one of these old shafts so you can pick which one you want. Everything rolls straight. Whoever put the tips on sanded the end of the ferrule down just slightly smaller than the rest of the ferrule so I included measurements for both. It’s not obvious.

Shaft 1: 4.4 ounces, 12.69mm at top of ferrule, 12.85 middle and throughout rest of ferrule
Shaft 2: 4.2 ounces, 12.55mm top of ferrule, 12.67mm middle and throughout rest of ferrule

Dave, please explain how that 30" vantage is double tapped?? Don't think I've ever heard of that B4. Along with a million other things I haven't heard.😉

The cutting tool that makes the threads for 5/16x14 and another one that cuts the threads for 5/16x18 are both ran through the brass insert, making it compatible with both as they each have the same inner diameter. I was also surprised when I found out about it, but it's pretty cool and fits securely on both pins. Not a bad way to go if you want to put your playing shaft on a cheap 5/16x18 import for going to the bar.

I'm gonna have to see if my cue guy can do that for me on a couple of shafts I have. Thanks for the info. Nice little trick to know!!👍🏻
