14.1 on a 12ft snooker table?

I wonder if any of the pro's would try a game with just 15 reds and play it in 14.1 fashion. What do you think, how many balls could be run? I believe it would be very difficult...even guys like O'Sullivan and Higgins would have trouble getting through 2 racks. Anyone with a snooker table at their disposal willing to try?

running reds would be easy, break shots would be tough

i would guess a top pro would play to break from the bottom as that is a shot they already use i.e potting the black and playing into the reds

I saw a comment in one of the snooker discussion threads that Hendry had introduced the novel technique of breaking using the blue. Of course such a shot is old hat in pool, but the writer implied that it was fairly new in snooker.

Nothing but a passing fad Bob. We've long since reverted to breaking with the white.

You asked for that one.

I don't think Hendry introduced this, you could always go into the pack from the blue. He certainly introduced the much more aggressive approach of going into the pack at any opportunity. Previous generations had been cautious 'percentages' players who would run for cover at the first hint of an imperfect angle, and reluctant to split the pack unless they were 'certain' to leave a red. The foolishly gauche Hendry suicidally smashed the pack open from anywhere, and suffered the inevitable consequences of having to stay on his feet for extended periods of the match while his more experience opponent conserved his precious energy in his chair, thereby being in a much fitter state to unscrew a cue or phone a taxi during the latter stages.

The game has never been the same since.

OMG your humor is so dry my eyes are getting chapped.

It is a interesting concept and something I have often wondered. How would asnooker player fair at 14.1 considering most 14.1 matches are to 125 or 150 and players regularly run these numbers it would be good to see a snooker player try it.

A maximum 147 break is actually only potting 36 balls in a row. Ok so the balls are spread quite away apart and it is on a 12ft table with super tight pockets but still, would a snooker player be able to run 150+?

Didn't Steve Davis play Steve Miszerak in the 80's? If so what was the outcome?

just put a pack of brunswick centennials on the table and go to work!

I tried this last year on a tighter than match snooker table with my predator shaft, I was surprised to make all 14 reds since many where in tough positions but of course missed the break shot. It was a thin cut back which on a 9ft was perfectly makeable but prob 1 in 50 on this table, didnt even come close. I'd say the top players in the world could break a 100 given time.

Had a quick go...

Following this query by Predator, I decided to have a quick go to see how it is... I only had 30 mins free yesterday so set up quickly and only had time for one go... I chucked all the reds more-or-less out around the black area of the table and started from there. I managed to make 3 tables and then got hooked behind the pack getting onto the next split ball... bit stupid really... I videoed the attempt and will post it on youtube as soon as I can get the video off my camera.

If I can make 42 balls at the first attempt, I'd hate to think what the likes of Ronnie could achieve if they put their mind to it! If I get time today I'll have another go, see if I can get past 50 balls... Bare in mind that the most balls I've ever potted in a row on a snooker table until now is 38!
