14.1 Straight Pool Ability Test

The 14.1 High Run's that have been run over the past few months have provided a lot of data, and maybe it provides an alternative ability test that you can do pretty quickly.

Ruslan only had 10 innings, but the other 3 players had a goodly number.

Innings run:
SVB: 95 innings
Earl: 197 Innings
Jayson: 130 Innings.
Using the data from those innings, a simple set of tests are:

Test #1.
With cue ball in hand, set up your break shot, and break the rack. Work through the rack, picking out a key ball and break ball. You don't need to sink the key ball, just get to 13 points.
- Jayson (or Shane), got to 13 points, 8 times out of 10. (20% of the time, their runs were less than 14)
- Earl, got to 13 points, 7 times out of 10

Test #2,
The same procedure, but the goal is to get to 27 points. So you do your first break, run the rack, leaving yourself with a break shot. Then you break the second rack and navigate your way through the rack until you get to the key ball.
- Jayson (or Shane), got to 27 points, 6 times out of 10. (40% of the time, their runs were less than 28)
- Earl got to 27 points, 5 times out of 10

Test #3
The same procedure, but the goal is to get to 41 points. So you do your first break, run the full rack, then continue with a second rack, and then a third rack up to the key ball.
- Jayson (or Shane), got to 41 points, 5 times out of 10 (50% of the time, their runs were less than 42)
- Earl got to 41 points, 3 times out of 10

Given the ability to get onto decent break balls, the big variables here will be the humidity, the balls, and the cloth. I think that this is a great way for one to measure progress and success in 14.1. Pocket size aside, just make sure you are playing in lower humidity conditions with clean pool balls of a higher quality and on a cloth that will allow clean, dry balls to spread at an acceptable level.

will you provide us with a beautiful graph for the 130 innings from Jayson. I loved the ones you put up before

And just for completeness, the Ruslan Chinakhov test is:

Test 1: Ruslan got to 28 nine times out of 10
Test 2: Ruslan got to 42 eight times out of 10
etc..
.down to
.
Test 4: Ruslan got to 100 five times out of 10
Test 5: Ruslan got to 200 three times out of 10.

But yeah, that's just an insane level!

Yeah, I can. The FB page doesn't have any videos after that 8-hour one that died mid-rack. As soon as they put up the video i can scan it and post the data.
the video that died mid rack was the 714 run and they won't put this one up. So would be great if you would make a graph from the other available videos

On the last video posted, (length 7:57), the last run is a run of 1, and Jayson is just getting ready to break again when the video ends.

I meant they won't put up the missing video with the record run. They decided to sell it as some kind of pay per view. So we have to work with the videos already available

There's still some confusion. On Facebook, Bobby said they'd post the video 'later today'. On the forum, Lou said maybe they won't post it at all. But today, Lou says he doesn't know and hasn't been speaking to Bobby, and hopes to today.

Confusion seems pretty normal. Once the dust settles I'll look at posting the data I've extracted.
