Best thing to really do would hit google and search for Straight Pool or 14.1 pool, wikipedia.org is also a great place to look.
And of course you can always look here, I am sure there are people who would be able to give you the low-down on the game, I have never played it myself but I have been looking into learning myself just because I watched The Hustler and although it seemed like a boring game to watch, it sounds pretty challenging and fun to play.

Straight Pool is often called "14.1" or "14.1 Continuous Straight Pool" and for some, they regard it as simply "pool" with all other games requiring clarification. It is considered to be the most challenging of all pool games, involving shots that require a great degree of pocketing accuracy and position routes that must be flawlessly executed in order to continue a run.
The rules are extremely simple. You are allowed to pocket any ball in any pocket so long as the ball and pocket are called. You need not specify anything like caroms or combinations. Once 14 of the 15 object balls have been pocketed, the remaining object ball and cue ball remain in place and the 14 pocketed balls are brought back to the table, racked in a standard triangle with the absent space left at the footspot and the shooter continues his run.
Games are typically played to an agreed goal (ie., 100 points) with each pocketed ball counting as one point. Any foul is a one point deduction and three consecutive fouls is a fifteen point penalty. Typical straight pool strategy involves leaving the final ball in such a position so when it is pocketed, the cue ball will carom into the fourteen balls that were recently racked (also known as the "rack" or the "stack").
The current official high run in straight pool is held by Hall of Famer Willie Mosconi (526 consecutive balls pocketed).
