One guy complained to the tournament director that he should not be playing in the open division (because Sam did not miss a single shot in their match) and then called Sam's cue sponsor (McDermott Cues) to complain.
That is insane.

Well he's a 544 Fargo, for a 14 yr old that's strong, as a 550 I have also gone matches without really missing an open shot so that's not a big deal. The more telling fact that he beat all the players 4-0 or 4-1 and only a few were 4-2, so he really was ahead of the field or the players he played were just bad C players. Another reason why closed ranking systems are not good for maintaining known player levels.

ACS has one hell of a convoluted ranking system https://americancuesports.org/player-ranking/guidelines

I can barely make out what it all means and how often a player can change ratings, from what I can tell they don't actually say how good of a player a Standard, Open or Advanced is, just how you finish in a tournament and something about using other known ratings for it, without any real facts.

Complaining to McDermott is funny though, Hi, this 14 yr old beat me using your cues, shame on you for helping him be so good LOL Very American though, if I can't beat them even, create new rules where I can.

Congrats to him. Hopefully his parents take away his cues and make sure he gets an education so he can support himself later in life.

Thank you. I am is his father. He is now and has been a straight A student. He plans on going to college and using pool to make extra money while he is in school. Then figure it out after that. I will not be taking his pool cues away at any time.

A young man needs a cool thing to do besides just work.... school and playing on social media. If pool is something you and your son are doing together that is even better!
