15 ball free form drill

In another thread, I mentioned that I do this drill. It was discussed that this drill was not very good, and was really practice playing.

First, practice playing, to me, is playing practice games such as 8 ball. You follow the rules just like in a real game,but you take more time between shots to evaluate the table.

The 15 ball free form drill is anything goes. Such as:
using nothing but inside english on 15 shots
using nothing but stun shots
using nothing but draw shots
using nothing follow
using nothing but side spin
using nothing but the side pockets for balls
doing nothing but banks
doing caroms whenever I see one
doing combos's
doing nothing but high angle cut shots
hitting no rails, no other balls
drawing back into a rail to get shape
and so on.

Then mixing up the above during a 15 ball drill.

By placing the 15 out on the table in any order, you have basiclly 15 one ball drills, which is kinda what a game is really.

You will see greater variety in shots than trying to think them up yourself.

You will see that position play is everything. You will start to think about position play as part of a shot and not something separate.

You will start to see patterns in your playing. Such as certain type of shots you miss or you only run x amount of balls before you miss, plus you might see that after a miss, it may take you x amount try's before you start making balls again.

I see people doing the same ole drills over and over. I seldom see anyone working on their problems, just their strengths. To improve,they get a new shaft, glove,glasses, new underwear, anything but real focused practice.

I get a great kick when someone thinks they have me locked up and I pull off a sweet carom,combo,or bank and run out.

Do you practice caroms,banks?
How bout caroms into a two ball combo? Do you even look for such things? With the 15 ball free form drill you can look for these as they do come up alot by just throwing the balls on the table.

Try it. You just might like it.
