The actual headline in Britian's The Telegraph reads, "My Mind Went Blank".

I can relate because I still clearly remember going blind the first time I played 9 Ball for a lot of money.

I am not mentioning the amount because the real story is how I went blind on difficult shots.

I kept aiming and aiming and instead of getting up off the shot and clearing my head I shot the shot and of course missed the pocket.

Luke Littler has been shocking the dart world with his championship performances, however as most pool players know playing your speed under pressure is the hardest part of becoming a champion.

This is a link to the story in The Telegraph dated January 4, 2024.

I watched that live. I was astonished that he had to ask the score. Up until that moment, including the previous matches, he was calculator-like in his scoring & plotting his doubles to go out.

Saw that moment of hesitation & thought “uh-oh”

Yeah, some days it's like a laser line on the table and some times I just cannot see the shot. It doesn't seem to have much to do with the pressure for me. I've dogged plenty of shots under pressure but that seems to be execution more than vision.

I've heard tale of a player saying he could no longer feel his arms toward the end of his record tying 3c run.

Shit's real!

One of the strangest ones I saw was a few years ago in Vegas. My wife's team was playing in the National Women's team event. They were playing this team from Texas. My wife's team was up, their player just needed one rack. Her opponent needed 3. Her opponent breaks, makes stripes, shoots a stripe in, then shoots the 8 ball in. There were still 5 stripes on the table. Match over.

Thank you for the story and I think the mental part of pool is under-estimated.
