I agree absolutely... and I'm also sure that KT paid good money to get the book featured so prominently in bookstores.macguy said:That's because it has reached the best sellers list due to the informicialsls. The volume of books that would be sold just from books stores based on it's own merit or word of mouth would be almost nothing.

I have a very hard time believing that pool DVDs, especially 165 of them will find much room and be able to keep that space in a place like wallyworld.

But, if Kevin succeeds in creating a product that generates signifigant sales numbers then it is very likely that you will see the products in brand-name retial establishments. Direct Response is often the test-bed for many new products. Many well established firms use direct-response and chiefly infomercials to create awareness and sales of their products before taking them to the conventional retail outlets.
What I find interesting is that Kevin may be creating a new genre of television with the purchasing of airtime to show his live-action made for tv sporting events. I would call it info-tainment. He is taking a sporting event where the outcome is unknown at the start of the event, i.e, the action is real and not staged or faked, and paying to produce it and show it. So, he is creating his own compelling content with a real sporting event where he is the only advertiser. Full editorial control and the ability to advertise whatever products he wants to sell. Gotta love that. And he has enough different content that the viewers don't have to see the same matches over and over and over and over. Basically, a tournament can be shown in it's entirety during the space in between the next tournament.

If you can get your hands on one of the thousands of free CD recordings of the players meeting, you will hear about what sort of deal is in it for the players...especially the part about the 2007 season.macguy said:I love the concept and just hope it's done well and if there is any real profits the players benefit beyond just prize money, IE a percent of sales for every one of the 150 member players. They can't just be playing for prize money they need some kind of guarantee. My fear is he will have so many matches in the can he can sell them for years to come and if the thing goes belly up the players that were involved will see him making money off their talents while they make nothing. I really want to see the players make money and not have to have it be a gamble.
I don't remember KT saying he would fill racks with DVDs, but he mentioned they were in discussions with retail chains and video rental chains to develop video distribution.macguy said:Is that what KT was telling you guys? He is in a fantasy land then, there is no way Wal-mart or Blockbusters buyers are wasting shelf space stocking a bunch of pool videos unless KT actually pays for the space, and probably not even then. If they do, just wait a short time and you will find them in the 1.99 cent bin to get rid of them because they won't sell enough to justify it. You have to deal in some kind of reality here. They may take a few but that would be it.

If he's promoting availability at these outlets through his hundreds of broadcasts it is possible he will get very good listing deals with these outlets. They also know he is a guy who can sell.
KT is not your average trade expo marketer who struggles to find distributors, he has proven himself to be one of the best marketers in the world.
