My wife found this table on a local Craigslist style website. We weren't looking for a table, but when the price said 500.00 I couldn't resist. These pics are from this afternoon and the guys are delivering it now.

Dismantled

This wearing on the Formica has me wanting to have it ground off and replace with a wood veneer like the other rebuild.

This is off the head rail.. The rest if then seen fine except they have those typical dents which is driving my OCD nuts.

My wife has explained to me to spend zero money on this thing.. Lol. (We will see how that goes). So lets get started with the counters.

Apparently we will need a Phillips and flat screwdriver. (Learning as we go)

The flat screw in the middle holds the counters to the rail. The Phillips hold the spring steel in to give the counters the ratchet feel between numbers.

Up next I removed the springs.
(Note number 3 spring broken)

Now its time to pull the counters out

They have a rod that is apparently press fit into the castings.

The castings have an edge on them so to get the rods out we have to get them to sit flat and then either press them out or use something smaller and just whack them with a deadblow or hammer a couple times. Truth be told I have an entire machine shop in the garage so I have a million things around here to make these sit flat but I'm trying to keep the thread on a level that anyone could do it in their garage. 2 pennies is about the right height.

I have a press but I think you get the idea that you could hammer then out easy enough. They weren't really pressed in so much as there was resistance from dirt over the years. A little patience and wd40 with a hammer and they will come right out.

This is what I found inside. Little felt type discs that are used for drag between the counters. 1 outside, 2 in between counters, then one on the outside again.

Other side done

Next step clean years if dirt / grime off counters.. If wife or girlfriend is asleep go grab a pan out of kitchen, and put some dish soap in it.. Fill with hottest water you can get and drop counters in. If wife / girlfriend awake drink more beers until they goto sleep (very important). Wash and return pot before they know what you did.

Bag and tag all parts that came off counters as we won't be using then for quite awhile. Mental note order new springs from classic billiards on Monday. (Want that new "snappy feel")

Hot soapy water and a tooth brush. I lightly brushed the counter for about 60 seconds. Brand new "OG" counter.

Before I call it a night I just wanted to see how the counters themselves would clean up.. I put one on a buffing wheel for about 30 seconds.. I'm not 100% sure what to do about the porosity if the castings themselves. I am wondering if that's why the Steve149 nickel plated them. (Looking for input there Steve if you are reading) Maybe the plating helps to get a more uniform surface finish? (Note this isn't polished by a long shot, was just a quick test)
Lightly touched the top surface on the one on the left.

Decided to at least take a look at the rest to see if I could figure it out..

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1395565196.347745.jpg

This pocket shim disintegrated in my fingers.. Probably not a good sign.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1395565207.197897.jpg

Found this wood shim that holds the cloth in.. Also very tired (old)

My goal was to figure out how the rail is held on.. Appears to be an ancient Chinese mystery, because I will be damned if I can figure it out.. Lol.

There's little nails in the bottom if the rubber but it has to be more then that because this is on there pretty rigid..

Nice find.

There was a thread some years back in how to make your own spring steel clips for the ball counters. You seem handy enough to do that.

I was thinking about making them, but they sell them cheap enough on classic billiards.
