1967 AMF grandprix 9' refurbish

Looks good Rob. After looking at the pictures on your blog you did a lot of work to that table. thanks for posting.

Looks great! I always thought those legs were a little beefier. I'm surprised they are sturdy enough to carry the weight of the table.

The corner posts of the figure eight base is a solid timber standing up, the table is very sturdy and I made sure the base and frame was a strong hold before final steps taken.

I'm not questioning that it is solid, I'm just surprised by the engineering behind it.

Table

Hello Donny,

A lot of time and effort went into that table, it turned out to be real nice table.

I know what you mean, most table pedestals are kinda built the same way but look beefy because of the veneer, most are hollow except the corner upright timber support.
She'll hold strong'

Thanks for viewing.

Very Nice! Is that the original color scheme? I dont recall what these used to look like back in the olden days.

It was originally all brown vinyl upholsterd. I removed the shit house brown vinyl and reupholstered it to another more attractive color scheme that was available from factory; as far as I can tell from research it was offered in a few colors.

I've always liked the looks of these tables. Nice work bringing this one back! Thanks for sharing!

Your table looks very nice! But what are those diamond markers I see on the cushions?

Now I've heard about the spot on the wall, but never the spot on the cushion .. LOL

But seriously, I think I can remember AMF buying Brunswick somewhere in the late 60's or early 70's ... At first they put AMF on the side of the table, then, shortly after went back to the "Brunswick" trade name.

Not sure if your table has Brunswick roots or not.

I have seen what I consider Gold Crowns that had AMF written on their sides.

AMF may have sold their interest some time ago, but for all I know they still have a piece today ... perhaps some of our Brunswick experts can shine some light on this pool table history.

Good rolls.

As far as I know, the table pictured in this thread, the Grand Prix, was AMF's answer to the Gold Crown in the '60's. In the '80's, AMF brought back the Grand Prix name and tagged it to a table that was a direct knock off of the Gold Crown. To my knowledge, AMF has never owned Brunswick Billiards.

Table

AMF never owned brunswick billiards or vice versa'

Bowl-mor just purchased brunswick bowling division....bowl-mor and AMF have worked together for many years, infact bowl-mor has purchased AMF not that long ago..

While I sorta like that cloth color, I dont think I would have chosen it for that base color!

Way to go Rob, looks great!

Hey Rob.
Excellent job man. The finished product turned out fantastic and true to its original design and color scheme. I still have the pictures you sent me a while back from when you first started to clean up the corner castings. It looks to me like, all of that hard work paid off in a big way.
Just the other day I run across an old AMF Gold Crown lookalike pretty cheap. If I had the space for a full restoration project, it would have been a hard deal to pass up on. Bringing something back to its original useful state is such a self gratifying feeling and you have every right to be proud, the table turned out great.

Knock Offs ... Those sneaky bastads' ! ... I really thought they were Gold Crowns, haven't seen one in a while, but that was a heck of a copy.

I guess they fooled me.

Only ever seen/played on a couple of these AMFs. Very nicely done on the restoration, dontlitethat. I also love the color in the above ad and would love to have that whole room as shown.

The flooring gives me a headache just looking at it.

LOL...understandable! It's a hot mess, but still freakin hot...kind of like Uma Thurman. And the wood paneling just brings back a lot of fond memories...like "here's the story, of a lovely lady..." haha
