OK, everyone this time. Not just the Green Guy. How many players can you name from the inaugural Steve Gumphry Memorial tournament. Here's a hint. There is 12 years of US Open wins in the photo. And the easy part, for the Green Guy, name the lady.

Archer, Gene The Machine, Ried Pierce, Wade Crane, Dirty Danny Jones, Earl, David Howard, Charlie Owens, Jerry Bento, BUDDY, Tommy Kennedy, Floyd Baxter, and Louie Roberts. I remeber that tourny well...........that was the first big one I ever saw. I recognize a few more, but don't remeber their names. I got autographs from Buddy, Crane, Earl and David. Buddy Hall was in the elevator with us, cause he missed his floor. He had to ride all the way up and catch his floor on the way down. lol

Larry Price is in there too. And the Hatches.......Dennis and his Dad I believe. I think Steve was a local player in Mississippi that died of Cancer. Not sure, is that right Hemi?

Calvin Harcrow, Gene "the glove" Catron, Louie Lemke, Jeff Carter, Scotty Townsend, Floyd Baxter, ? Phillips, those are some more that I see. I will just say that the lady's initials are PG.

Wow, what a picture! I am still amazed at a memorial in Jackson, Mississippi.

Steve was from Maryland, and was definitely a local legend. After leaving the area, his game got even stronger. Pool lost a great one when The Gumph passed. Sadly, his younger brother passed away from the same cancer some years later.

Great picture, Hemicudas

Thanks manlyshot. Steve was loved by all in the Jackson area as well as all over the south. He was the kind of guy that, if you had to lose your money, you wanted to lose it to Gumph. The one thing players will remember him for is his ability to cut money correctly. If you were in with him, you could trust him on the count. Great personality. I truly miss him.......$Bill

Great picture , Bill

Iwas at that tournament too, I believe. Are you anywhere in the photo ? I see Gene Fowler in there, a former very good player from New Orleans who quit playing. I know the ladies name, guess I shouldn't tell though......Humphrey:D

I'm not in that one jungledude. I moved my family to Chicago in 1979 and didn't move back for good until 1999. 6 or 7 of the players are locals from Jackson though. You might know Mr. Watson (white shirt next to Earl) or Woody Mitchell (top row 2nd from right) Woody and I played a lot in Fat City and I know you remember the SONRA lounge back in the 70s. Woody played Vester Baker for 3 days at the Pumping Station at night and the Palace in the day. Yea, Woody got the money but it took a while.

And yea, I was wondering where Buster was too. I guess you noticed the Old Master Sonny Springer.

And no Reed Pierce.
