Among South West enthusiasts, ebony builds have long held a special place.
They’re prized for their dense, authoritative hit — direct, solid, and unapologetically firm. It’s the kind of response that serious players appreciate, including Taiwanese legends such as Yang Ching-Shun, Wu Chia-Ching, and the Ko brothers.

This cue dates back to 1995 and carries the engraved cactus logo along with the build year and numbered pin — hallmarks of an authentic South West from a highly regarded period.

Ebony South West cues typically tip the scales at 20oz or more. This example is notably lighter, offering that unmistakable ebony punch and stiffness without the heavier butt weight many are accustomed to — a rare and appealing balance.

When it comes to nosewood, Gaboon ebony has long been promoted as the top choice for those seeking maximum power.
Known for its crisp, ultra-stiff response, it transfers energy cleanly and makes it easy to stun or move the cue ball with minimal effort. The hit is sharp, focused, and commanding.

Both original shafts are fitted with the earlier Aegis ferrule material — now discontinued and increasingly hard to find.
While it tends to pick up chalk marks more easily, many seasoned players prefer its slightly softer, more responsive character over the newer Aegis II, which delivers a cleaner but noticeably firmer feel.

A mid-90s ebony South West that plays every bit as strong as its reputation — built in an era collectors respect, and configured in a way experienced players truly value.
